Palin is to be strongly condemned for these utterly irresponsible remarks. Either she is mentally unstable or a bloodthirsty warmonger. If it is the latter, then her remarks qualify as war propaganda, which is punishable under international law. If it is the former, then Palin should commit suicide and spare the world of a nuclear holocaust.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has said that Georgia should be admitted to NATO, and that the United States could go to war with Russia if Moscow then attacked the South Caucasus state.
Speaking about the Georgian crisis in her in her first major interview since becoming Senator John McCain's running mate, the governor of Alaska said: "We've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable."
Palin told interviewer Charles Gibson of ABC News that Georgia should be granted membership of NATO. When pressed on whether this would mean that the U.S. would be obliged to defend Georgia if Russian troops went into the country again, she replied, "Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help."
"What I think is that smaller democratic countries that are invaded by a larger power is something for us to be vigilant against," Palin added. "We have got to show the support, in this case, for Georgia."
She also called for NATO membership to be granted to Ukraine, another former Soviet republic.

Yes, she is clearly not only a religious fundamentlist, but also a genuinely stupid, irresponsible and dangerous person. Ffs, even Bush clearly pales in comparison to her.
If she really doesn't realise why there can not be a direct war between the US and Russia, and why even comments like that endanger the existence of the human species, I dread the day she may step into office.
For the first time I actually start really caring about who wins the US elections, as the threat of a nuclear holocaust is re-emerging. May the american people spare us from the risk of Palin ever getting to power.

The latter, but of course the United States is hypocritically above "international law." Still, I do not want to see her or John McCain in office (even though Barack Obama and Joe Biden are also bad).
She is anti-environment, an extremist pro-lifer (which constitutes as anti-women's rights in my book), a total war hawk, and an extremely bad hypocrite reminiscent of Bush.
THe American people dont want this type of person in office again.
Let's hope. This year's election has me sweating, and I can't wait for it to be done and over with.

The problem is that Obama and Biden have made similar comments about Russia and Georgia, along the same lines as those made by McCain and Palin. The push toward war -- or, at least, a new Cold War -- between the U.S. and Russia is more or less a consensus view of the American capitalist class, and that is reflected in the statements of both candidates.

What needs to happen and I stress it clear. The people must take back power.

Come on guys, a hot conflict with russia? No way. And I don't really see any quotes there where Palin "threatens war", she states the obvious, if a NATO member is invaded then all other NATO members are obligated to come to thier aid. She wants Georgia in NATO, so does virtually every US politician.

That's extremely worrying. Have Obama & co also implied the possibility of directly attacking Russia, though, or simply hardening relations, supporting countries the Russia attacks etc?
Which wouldn't be good either, of course, but not lunatic. The thing is that I get more plain, pure insanity wibes from Palin than any of the others.
Just the amount of plain batshit comments in a small amount of time, I suppose. You know, I get the feeling that while statements like that from others would be rhetoric, she actually means them.
Of course it might be that she like Bush the Younger in reality would become a puppet for the more intelligent, calculating people behind the scenes, however. Hard to believe they'd let a fool of that magnitude make any final decisions..

Yeah I remember seeing that interview where she said that and I just couldn't believe it!
Thing is though she may have just shot herself and the Republicans in the foot and contracted a serious case of gangreen in the process, as even the most hardened American patriot living in war apathetic America (the people not the government) won't find being at war with Russia a good thing, especially when nuclear weapons and denying the west oil and gas (and thus further adding to the global economic and financial crises) is involved.
She said the only difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull is lipstick, well me thinks that after saying what she said about Russia McCain will be seriously thinking about putting a muzzle on this loose cannon.

If the prospect of nuclear war looms larger maybe I should start considering leaving the U.S.

What really terrifies me is this
Usually, in the US, the Vice president holds little power, however McCain is extremely old
The average male life in the US is 75, I believe. If this is true, McCain only has a few more years. After his death, this maniac would be in control.
Palin is insane and cannot be allowed to obtain office.

Hmmm I don't know comrade as McCain's mother is still alive and well!
So if she is anything to go by then it looks like McCain will still be going strong for sometime yet.

she is just purely maniacal, insane, and a total religious fundamentalist. i mean, i dont like the whole "lesser of two evils" argument against the republican party. but they might really have a point.

im particularly disgusted with the following:
9) While mayor of Wasilla (javascript:na_open_window('win',%20'http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/08/29/what-is-mccain-thinking-one-alaskans-perspective/',%200,%200,%20600,%20600,%201,%201,%201,%201,%201 )) she tried to fire the city librarian because the librarian refused to censor books (http://www.adn.com/sarah-palin/story/515512.html)
this type of shit reminds me of the middle ages when they would burn books!

could just be luck, some people are just luckier when it comes to not getting sick. Also, she doesn't have a multi thousand page medical history

Palin's definitely a fruitbat, but it wouldn't matter that she were one if there weren't a mass base, particularly among the toiling classes, that shares much or all of her outlook. This is the fruit of three full generations without a class-based left politics, with no working class-based and identified organizing or media, in mainstream America. The result is a political vacuum in working peoples' heads that gets filled with the wackadoodle nonsense of a Sarah Palin and her ideological ilk. It's that mass base that makes her mania dangerous.

Hello to everyone! I'm a newbie in here, so, sorry, if I'm doing something incorrect, replying without proper introducing myself. I guess, Palin's got nothing to do with threatening Russia. I'd like some interviews to be put here, that, I believe, have never been revealed in English the way they are. I mean the interviews by Putin and Medvedev. By the way, I do not understand why on Earth West supports Georgia, headed by quite an insane person. Why nobody says that Georgia started bombing of another country and Russia had nothing to do, protecting that territory? Going back to the topic, Palin shouldn't forget that the US has been messing everything up in the Middle East, breaking international laws and ruining the essence of the world, that has been in peace since the USSR kicked Hitler down. Actually, I understand, she's kind of dashing person, but I do believe that housewives (even if they try to behave like governers) should be banned from making comments in a sphere, where they cannot do anything good.

In fact, she may say anything to win the elections, but the world has changed, Russia has grown into a big player and all the statements can't dramatically alter its position at the international arena.

I am just waiting for the day that VP Palin shoots her hunting buddy in the face. Because it won't be with bird shot, it will be with moose shot. :scared:
Anyway yeah, she is nuts. It is truly shocking to reflect on the fact that we may have a person be first in line for the most powerful position in the world, who was chosen to be there on the basis of her children playing hockey and her affinity for hunting moose. If that doesn't give you pause, nothing will. What an irrational world political system.
