Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Wednesday accused the United States of restarting plans to murder him.

The president alleged that America was planning to bomb the Miraflores Palace or the studio from where he broadcasts his Sunday TV and radio program "Hello, President."

Chavez's latest denouncement of the U.S. came during the inauguration ceremony of a medical center in Flores de Catia, in the west of Caracas.

"The plans to kill me are reactivated, and the Yankee forces are looking for active militaries and pilots to bomb Miraflores, or the Sunday program Hello, President," Chavez said in the speech, which was televised.

According to Chavez, during the attempt his enemies will paint Venezuelan flags on their aircraft to disguise themselves as being part of a popular revolution.

Chavez said the plans to murder him resulted from the despair of "the empire" since the popularity of his government has reached almost 80 percent.

"I guarantee you they cannot defeat us. However, I am making this responsible call to the Venezuelan people to alert you, because the expectations of the pitiyankees (U.S. sympathizers) would be smashed," Chavez added.

Chavez also said his political rivals planned to utilize the governors' and mayoral elections on Nov. 23 to attack his government, to make the people believe the Bolivarian revolution has failed.

Well, the USA is certainly notorious for destroying popular governments that threatens its imperialist rule, never the less seeing that they have enough problems in Iraq, and Afghanistan, I don't think the USA will be doing an invation to Venezuela any time soon.

They could still do economic sabotage, sponsor another coup or something like that if they wanted to overthrow Chavez.

Of the course the US wants him dead. He's been an arrogant little shit. Doesn't Chavez know who the masters of the world are? The US did the 2002 coup (the evidence is very plain) and recently recommissioned the 4th....8th....? Navy to do routes in the Caribbean. I don't imagine anything happening before the election, though.

Does the US imagine the shit storm they would get for killing this man? That would be worthy of invasion.

There are continuing rumours of coup attempts against Chavez. Last night on Venezuelan television details of one plot was revealed. Various PSUV mobilisations are planned for the next few days. Have a look at the report on Venezuelan Analysis www [dot] venezuelanalysis [dot] com /news/3786 (URL scrambled to fool the bored software) for further details.

I had a feeling with the recent russian arms exchange that they would try to pull something, but I'm not completely sure. I don't think the US would do it, at least not any time soon

ABG7:
It would be nice to know that Chavez scoured RevLeft looking for praise, but I think his English is only so-so and he might have more pressing matters on his head.

That being said, I've joined pro-Chavez facebook groups. But that's not for Chavez's benefit; it's just to piss off all the fascists online. It's like Chomsky says (about) "The internet is an elitist medium--most of the world's population doesn't even have access to a telephone" and it shows.

From the outside the political context has changed. Once upon a time there was the general opinion that the Cold War made it inevitable for a superpower to intervene (whatever that means) in certain countries in order to stabilize the bipolar world order. Today things look different; possible assassinations are great stories for newspapers since public opinion in general is not really fond of such assassination attempts.
But everyone who says that there is nothing new on the horizon is right because the capitalists do everything to end any opposition.
