On the anniversary of 9/11, i want to pose this simple question. Millions (perhaps billions) of people around the world think they know the answers. But the simple fact is that what they ”think they know” varies greatly.

Was this an attack by Islamic Jihadists based in Afghanistan and led by Osama Bin Laden?
Was it an attack hatched by some cabal of the CIA and israeli Mossad using Arab agents as frontmen and fallguys?

I won’t make a secret of what I believe: I think that rather reactionary Islamist fundamentalist forces were funded, encouraged, armed and organized by CIA and Saudi funds during the covert U.S. war with the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. And in the early 1990s, as the Soviets collapsed and as the U.S. sent troops into Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the Gulf region, these forces turned on the U.S. — with a plan of overthrowing the corrupt Saudi monarchy, and with a larger program of developing a theocratic Caliphate based in the Middle East. It is quite possible (in my opinion) that these forces had lingering ties to the U.S. CIA (they had been allies all through the 1980s). It is quite possible that forces within Israel’s intelligence “let it happen” — thinking that a “terrorist attack on U.S. soil” would greatly benefit Israel’s position.

And I certainly believe that the U.S. government (and ruling class) TOOK ADVANTAGE of the attacks on New York, to launch wars and operations they had long dreamed of — to establish U.S. hegemony in the world, to further secure their control over Persian Gulf oil, to pressure allies and opponents to fall in line, to establish new bases in Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and more.

But I don’t believe that the attack on the two towers was planned by the CIA, or approved by high levels of the U.S. government.

They took advantage, but I don’t think their fingerprints are visible on this operation.

Now, to be clear: The vile creatures who run the U.S. and its empire are capable of monstrous crimes andthe most cynical calculations. They enslaved Africans, murdered Native people, nuked Hiroshima, slaughtered the Vietnamese, and have invaded almost every country in the Western hemisphere. There is no crime they are NOT capable of… but, my examination of the facts have provided no evidence that they participated in THIS set of crimes.. But such events are too risky, too unpredictable, too likely to fail or become exposed — for any major powerholder in the U.S. to risk it all by unleashing the plots.

Those are my conclusions so far, and I imagine they are shared by many people around this site. But they are considered naive and uninformed by many — including many people in the Middle East, and the networks that are called “9/11 Conspiracy” people. So lets speak to the analysis, the evidence and the madness that has emerged around 9/11.

What is true? What is not? What matters? What is proven? What is not? Got links and videos? Let’s get into it.
*******

We can discuss that here, but I would really hope if people went to the Kasama Project site to debate it there: http://mikeely.wordpress.com/2008/09/09/two-towers-nyc-911-who-did-it/#comment-6684

" too likely to fail or become exposed " Can you expand on what you mean by this phrase? Is this akin to the "someone would have talked argument" I am not sure if it is. but if so,then I would agree that this is indeed naive, or perhaps due to limited study of CIA and media operations. By the way you did not list JFK assassinations in your list of Crimes that you think the CIA is capable of. Perhaps because you do not think it sufficificiently monsterous given what you have read about JFK???? Just asking here not to compare it to the CIA genocides BUT RATHER...

because I think there IS a definite body of knowledge that comes from studying the JFK assassination that is definitely applicable to the how one interprets the 9/11 """"""""""""conspiracy theories"""""""""""""""

Have you studied the JFK assassination and or other CIA history much? Or have you --unlike generations of the left BEFORE roughly 1997 -- dismissed all such study under the much marketed catchall phrase "conspiracy theory?" I should add that such a study of the CIA would be insepperable from a study of the Cold War itself. Although there are certainly those who labor long and hard to separate the two!
