Greek anarchists stormed a supermarket Thursday and handed out food for free in the latest of a wave of raids provoked by soaring consumer prices. ---- About 20 unarmed people, mostly wearing black hoods, carried out the midday robbery in the northern city of Thesaaloniki, police said. ---- Local media have labelled the raiders "Robin Hoods" following previous raids. ---- They take only packets of pasta, rice and cartons of milk which they drop in the middle of the street for people to collect, a police official said. ---- "They have never stolen money or hurt anyone. They ask people to remain calm but use ambush tactics, jumping over cash desks," he said. ---- "When they attack without hoods, people are surprised to see that they are mostly women."
The rising cost of living has replaced unemployment as Greeks' main concern. Inflation is officially running at a 10-year high of 4.9 percent although many items have risen in price more sharply.

I'm really glad they chose to take a more non-violent path to accomplishing this. Not to say that I'm against violence, but it can show people that anarchists aren't all violent teenagers that break windows and slash tires on a whim, and that they truly want what's good for the community.

Maybe, but do you think reactionary characters are going to care? They could just as easily make them out as thieves, no matter how nice their gestures are.
I can see it used against the left, but what they did was great.

Thats one of the best actions that Anarchists do in Greece, and they have done it more times, its not the first.People really are in bad economical situation, and those actions showing alliance to poor people and the best part is that this is just plain non-violence action. We are not for the violence, we are for helping people.
Good job comrades keep the good work on!

it's good PR for the radical left, only the rabid right wing media can paint this in a negative way

Good on them.
Actions like this are things which I support wholeheartedly and would like to see more of.
I myself was thinking of being a Robin Hood type figure once by robbing banks and either giving the money to charity (I would like to see a government and bank demand back money which is helping cancer patients, just imagine the bad PR!) or posting the money to poor families.
Needless to say I never put these fantasies of mine into action.:(

I'm curious on how they distributed the food to the people. Was there just some street that they dropped these off on and hope that people would just pick it up?
Anyways, the best of luck to them,

I think that pretty much anything we do is going to be used against us, so I don't think that we should really care a whole lot on what the media would paint us as.

Well the safest way is the note passing, although the pay out wouldn't be that great it is said to be around like 1-5 thousand. Simply hand the teller a note saying to give you all there money and they have to comply. Brings the least amount of attention, compared to waving a gun around. :ninja: :D Usually they don't get the money back from bank robbers, but there is still prison time.
