Anyone like or hate her?
I just started listening to some of her songs recently. Some of them are pretty good. She has a pretty interesting life story, too.

"Paper Planes" is cool, and it is built on a Clash sample ("Straight to Hell")

I really like her although I haven't actually listened to anything after Arular. :P Probably something to add to the to-do list.
She gets played a lot at parties around here. And at my work. :P (but then again we play a lot of Dolly Parton at my work.)

Just to add to this thread- the soundtrack to Danny Boyle's new film Slumdog Millionaire features MIA and A.R. Rahman (one of the best composer's in India) in collaboration.
Possibly the most exciting collaboration in years! Yay!

Paper planes is good if a bit overplayed now, Galang is still a fucking tune though even if I don't really know what she's talking about in her songs.

I loved the movie Slumdog Millionaire. The music was great too. I actually have that entire soundtrack on my computer. On another note, yes M.I.A is pretty cool. I love the song Paper Planes.

I love M.I.A. I think both of her albums are equally awesome. The fact that she adds politics to music is a breath of fresh air ever since Rage disbanded.

I love M.I.A. although it's not my usual sort of music... Not that I can think of anything else to really compare her to. Funnily, I seem to recall the gunshots on 'Paper Planes' were censored in the U.S. and replaced with clicking or something - was that true? It would just decimate the attitude of the song.
