Last night, in his speech to America and the world President Bush declared:
"Americans understand the costs of conflict because we have paid them in the past."
"The United States with other countries will work to advance liberty and peace in that region. Our goal will not be achieved overnight, but it can come over time. The power and appeal of human liberty is felt in every life and every land, and the greatest power of freedom is to overcome hatred and violence, and turn the creative gifts of men and women to the pursuits of
peace."
"No more torture chambers."
President Bush did not mention the words "law," "legal" or "international law." Probably an oversight.
On Feb. 26, 2003, the New York Times quoted President Bush as saying that generals should "clearly understand that if they take innocent life, if they destroy infrastructure, they will be held to account as war criminals." He was talking about Iraqi generals, but as a man of peace he must have also meant American ones.
Right?
Not to mention the fact that Bush vows that anyone who destroys oil wells will be prosecuted as a war criminal.
