View Full Version : Down Syndrome-what is it, exactly?

Down syndrome is about the child inheriting an extra chromosome, instead of the regular 46, 23 from each parent. How does this happen, and why? What's this extra chromosome?

Was Hitler down with down syndrome?:( Was that the reason for his way of thinking and action?

I believe it's an extra 21st chromosome, though I could be wrong. I don't know exactly why it happens, all I know is that it is a mutation in the genetic formation of a person. And no, Hitler did not have down syndrome.

A chromosome is a single piece of DNA, the biological 'code' in our cells which determines exactly how we will look and function. Even extremely small chromosomal differences can have a huge impact, for example men and women have the exact same set of chromosomes except the last pair, which for men is 'XY' and in women 'XX'.

Persons with Downs syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downs_syndrome) have an either a whole, or a partial extra 21st cromosome. This causes both physical and mental disabilities of individually varying degrees, and is usually characterised by certain relatively easily distinguishable features (run a picture search on google). It has several causes, but the mothers age is one important factor, the risk increases drastically along with it.

 No. He likely had a sociopathic personality disorder. (Edit: I'm not laughing at people with Downs, just the absurdity of the thought)

What I mean to say is, Doctors say people with Down Syndrome may not necessarily look like Mongols (which is the common mistaken view), and they may not have learning disability. They may even socialize quite easily, work, and appear normal to others. Which is why I wondered whether Hitler had this, maybe, it was the extra chromosome that made him a little different from the rest, both physically and otherwise.

Listen: it is absolutely not possible, we can be one hundred percent certain that Hitler did not have Downs syndrome, ok? There is absolutely nothing pointing in that direction, he had none of the physical characteristics, neither was he mentally disabled.

Even though the grades of disablement may vary, Hitler was definitely too high-functioning to have any variant of Downs syndrome. He was just an asshole, and that's all.

Like I said, he might have had a psychopathic/sociopathic personality disorder, but that's it. I find it hard to believe that you are actually being serious about this, are you?

It's a q that popped into my head out of curiosity, that's all. Physically, he DID look a little different:(, and that probably attracted people to him. He also had some learning disability, and an inability to socialize:crying:. He threw temper tantrums every now and then.

All this points to some disorder, so I wondered whether it was DS. No offense, comrade.:thumbup1:

You might say that he looked physically different, but I am not sure what you are referring to. Physically he did not have any such disability that I know of.

Also, I doubt the nazis would be quick to follow one who had Downs syndrome... the thought is bizarre. There is simply no reason to suggest that he had Downs syndrome.

On another note, who cares, really? The man is dead and old news.

Down's syndrome is a disability, not a cause for psychopathy. People with Down's syndrome are generally peaceful, loving individuals who are sterile, have special facial characteristics, and are below to average intelligence in many cases.

Hitler may have had asperger's syndrome, a trauma due to a repressed sexual identity, or just ordinary psychopathy.
