View Full Version : Fox News: the masters of baiting

Fox News covered the democratic national convention and showed us how to masterfully bait the marchers. While it is amusing that the protesters started chanting "fuck fox news" on live fox news, it's pretty clear that the reporters were baiting the protesters into this kind of response so that they could marginalize them as "rioters".

1. Fuck fox news
2. "What is surprising is that most of them aren't for Obama." LOL.
3. But seriously, one of them should have actually explained what they actually stand for instead of flipping off the camera and yelling fuck fox news. Makes us as radical leftists look immature and bad.

Of course. But even someone in that crowd accepted that tactic, Fox News isn't going to give any revolutionary leftist a serious platform for articulating their views.

Isn't protesting the DNC itself kind of immature?
A Green friend of mine tried to get me to go and I really didn't see the point. For publicity purposes, it makes much more sense to target groups like the WTO and G8 imo.
eta: not immature, just pointless, unless it has an extremely clear and unified message (Pelosi's refusal to impeach or something).

Why? The DNC is full of just as many rich assholes as the WTO and G8.

Of course, but it's the message that matters. I was just about to edit this into my last post before you replied: In the news coverage (http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&q=democratic+national+convention+protests&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=news_group&resnum=1&ct=title), a few MSM sources focused on the anti-war motivation, others just covered the action, and a few made Hillary supporters seem like the main contingent(!).
Protesting the G8/WTO just gives you a little more control over your message, that's all. The message is pretty clear without even being explained. The MSM cannot spin that one.
I think protesting on the day of the DNC was not a bad idea, but I would probably have done it at the White House or Pentagon or Halliburton HQ. That way you detract from the DNC and the whole 2-party mess rather than seeming to give it importance. And it allows you more control over your message.

And the reporter made the false claim that they named themselves in reference to the (police) riot of Chicago.
From the Recreate '68 wiki article:
"The group rejects allegations that they intend to re-create the violence of the 1968 convention riots, stating "We don’t call ourselves ‘Re-create Chicago ’68,'"[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recreate_68#cite_note-recrea-2)"
And of course there is the other myth that the media continues to perpetuate: that the DNC 68 violence was the result of the protesters instead of the police.

These people call themselves reporters. Christ, they don't even try to pretend not to have an agenda, straight up telling the viewer what they were supposed to see in their clip there.

It's quite sad indeed. I'm looking forward to Democracy Now!'s coverage tomorrow, I'm sure it will be pretty good.

Another Fox News thread??? These people are not worthy of our attention. We should go about our own business, changing the minds of the people by ourselves, regardless of Fox News' intent. We're not doing what we do as a response to Fox News, we're doing it for the advancement of human kind.

"I guess they don't believe in freedom of speech."
Because the protester doesn't answer your question, he doesn't believe in freedom of speech?

Noam Chomsky was right......the conservative media (FOX News) is little less censuring than the liberal media (MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, PBS) because the conservative media will, once in a while, show the presence of the true left.....but not for good reasons as they're trying to make the left look bad by actually showing their positions.
That reporter, though a scrub, did actually mention the goals of the left, to end the war in Iraq and to prevent any war in Iran. The liberal media wouldn't even dare to mention that the left actually does promote that.
And also, EVERYONE knows Fox News is a joke so it's more to laugh about.

Nope, freedom of speech just turned into the duty to speak.

And the Democracy Now! report of the convention protests was much better of course. I suggest watching it (the first section after the headlines are reported)
