I know we have multiple threads, but something has been bothering me.
Throughout the conflict, Russia steadily advanced toward Tbilisi. However, world leaders converged on the city - first former Soviet bloc nations, then Condoleeza Rice. So I'm wondering, what did they know that we don't? Or was it just their presence that stopped Russia?
I'm hoping someone who knows more about the region can help me.
