Why is it that left-wing journalists in Iraq persist with the pretence of asking questions of 'ordinary Iraqis'? They are asking people for opinions in a country where it is illegal to have one that might slightly contradict that of their government, and where you and your family can be murdered by Baathist thugs if you express those opinions on air.

What's worse is that they know the Iraqi people are constrained in what they are allowed to say, yet they persist. It can only mean that these journalists are using the victims of despotism to unwillingly propagandise for the regime that oppresses them.

The only fear is not from Saddam, but his loyal followers of people who will do anything for him. So, they know they can say whatever, just choose not to, as you pointed out.

Journalism is based on ONE thing: ratings.

If people want to hear from ordinary Iraqis, you can bet your ass your perfect little free market makes sure there will be copious amounts of journalists snooping around for their oppinions within the hour. When the demand goes away, they move on to more important matters like celebrity marriages.

Gotta love capitalism, huh? ;)
