So one of my former close friends has joined the Neo-Nazi scene. He was very progressive in thought, professing to be a socialist back then, and out of no-where joined a white power board (Storm-front I believe) and began criticizing everything that wasn't white. Now hes extremely racist (Even though he's dating a latin girl)and homo-phobic. After shaving his head he began supporting National Socialism and its all been going down hill from there.

Anyone ever have a similar problem in there life? also I'd like to know what are some things I can tell him and try to get him back to his senses from all this lunacy.

I've never had a problem like that. A lot of my school friends are racist/latent racist (Which is why when I graduate in a few months I'm staying the fuck away from them, I'll hang out with my commie friends instead), but I've never had a friend suddenly become a fascist.

There is no way he can be too convicted in these beliefs if he is dating a Hispanic girl, unless she is a European from this region. Even so, the best thing to do is talk to him one-on-one. If he is a good friend, then you do not want to lose him, and you especially do not want to "kick his ass". Show him who his REAL enemies are, and explain that it is capitalism, not immigration or races that are the cause of all the problems that have evoked this hatred within him.

Supposedly, I heard of Puerto Rican Nazis but never meet them... It's ridiculous because they're probably not "white" per se (as in they're hispanic, have mixed heritage, etc.).

It doesn't faze me that he's dating a Latin American (I suppose, unless she's directly from Spain) and making up excuses to why. A psychological concept explains this (cognitive dissonance I think).

I never had a similar experience so I really don't have any ideas, unfortunatly...:(

Strangely, I see a lot of white leftist kids who wind up going over to the fascists. A friend of mine says it's because they tend to be extreme rebels and they find racism the ultimate rebellion. Which got me thinking - SR, how do you know he's not just being an attention whore? It's a despicable way to do it, but some people aren't too sharp or considerate when it comes to things like these. Depending on the character's age, it could be a passing stage. I think red phalanx was also hinting at this, in noting how yuppie lefties sometimes turn into fascists. I think when they get a real job and have to interact with minority colleagues and clients/students/patients/customers, they tend to snap out of it.

Here's my suggestion. If it's mostly whining and internet posting, sooner or later this guy will probably get bored with it all and move on. He'll probably keep some rightist sentiment for a long time (like subtle racism) and at that point, when he's become a run-of-the-mill soft bigot, you can re-evaluate your friendship. In the interim, it would pay to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't act out these fantasies by, say, going to fascist meeting. Have you talked to his girlfriend or family about it? She could threaten to leave him if he takes this crap any further.

Fact is he's stupid.
He's a brainless dickless attention whore who needs to associate with people to feel better. He probably was a "socialist" because he had this need and believed socialism would give him that. He now found out that nazi communities are pretty close, and possibly liked the warmth. Using of peer pressure to change his mind would work out pretty fast, or would get him even closer to the neo nazi community.
My guess is that you should reunite with his old friends and talk about that.
Maybe talk with his family and explain how "progressive" his new attitude is and that they perhaps shouldn't be so supportive of his actions, considering that it could take him to bad paths and may not just be a phase.
Also talking with his girlfriend.
You said she's a white latin american.
Check out if she is a nazi, or if she is a racist or conservative. If she is not, she'll surely be of help. I don't know much about other latin american countries, but at least here even amongst the whites nazism isn't "that popular".
If you can get to talk with her, be really careful and make it sure she knows you are acting on the best interest of your former friend.
