People seem to discredit any political message from any one who doesn't have a political career, the Archbishop of Canterbury has been criticised for his response to the threat of war, and many musicians, etc, have been told that they do not know what is going on so they should shut up about the war, but do you agree? Are only politicians and journalists qualified to speak out about these issues?
I thought of this just now, I have just come back forom the enthronment of Rowan Williams, which I took part in because I am a memeber of the Cathedral Foundation in Canterbury (if you saw it on TV you might have seen me processing!).
Another issue connected with this is credibility, I brought this up in my MESSAGE TO ALL LEFTISTS in the Politics forum, and I believe it is important. We all rtend to pre-judge people and a huge proportion of soceityb will almost automatically ignore someone with dreadlocks/piercings/tatoos, they think arty people don't have a clue about the real world and religious people should stick to praying (these are all of course gross generalisations but you understand what I mean).
The thing is, what can we do about this? Do we ignore what the rest of the world thinks and continue to be ourselves, or do we dress in suits and try to get the world to listen because we now look like what they consider to be "rational" and "normal" human beings?
I don't know what to do, I just wish people could stop and listen to the words rather than just looking at the outside appearance.
