I really like them, I just have to be in the right mood for them. If you like Godspeed! you should check out Pelican. I saw them live last year and fell in love.

Also, doesn't one of them have a side project called Bakunin's Bum?

Yes, I love that band. Especially Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven is an album I have listened to a lot. Know of other albums that are great, let me know.

I like a lot of that kind of music. A favorite of mine is Isis, which I am seeing live tomorrow (!) together with Sunn O))). It is a little similar in mood, in my opinion (dark like Godspeed, in my opinion Pelican is brighter) although Isis is heavier and progressive where Godspeed is atmospheric. Red Sparowes is also similar, yet perhaps more structured. Jesu is also a great band. To list a few others; Neurosis (which I also will be seeing live in a few days -- god this is such a great week), Russian Circles, Cult of Luna, Rosetta, Caspian, Mouth of the Architect (Quietly is a great album). Grails is also a band very similar in sound, which I recommend. Many of these are heavier but I think they are part of the same direction, if you will.

I have heard a few of their things, pretty damn cool and weird. One of their songs is a poem by some guy that hates the US government with music playing in the background, that one was pretty sweet.

Nice! I've seen Sunn O))) live with Boris, but I'd love to see Isis. Celestial (The Tower) blows my mind every time.

And I like the uplifting Pelican sound. It sort of fills you up with sonic bliss. :p

If you post with the 'advanced' options, on the far right of the toolbar there's a 'youtube' button. You just post the link with that.

first off, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but i just found out about these guys a few weeks ago and i fell in love with them. i figured id share a few videos i found while im at it. This band would have gone wonderfully with 'The Atomic Cafe' mind you these are probably user made. so, they just decided to make them as apocalyptic as hell haha

Godspeed make soul haunting, absolutely incredible music.
The peak in 'east hastings', and the entire 'sleep', and 'dead flag blues' song make me blow a load.

They play really good music, along with A Silver Mt. Zion with whom they share some of the same members.

The listening experience with GY!BE depends entirely on context though. It's not something you play just to listen to as background music, you really have to devote yourself entirely to the listening experience. In my opinion it's best listened to loud, with headphones, laying down in the dark. The music will really fuck with you if you let it.

me too, why even bother listening to it if you don't.

mono, the retail sectors, yndi halda, working for a nuclear free city, and the strange death of liberal england are all great bands for those who enjoy GY!BE.

Of Course, Godspeed is the par excellence of Post-Rock! Blaise Bailey Finnegan is their highlight. If you like Godspeed listen to This Is Your Captain Speaking, The Ascent of Everest, Do Make Say Think, Mogwai, From Monument To Masses, Don't Mess With Texas, El Ten Eleven, This Will Destory You, I fucking live for Post-Rock
