STOP THE GOVERNMENT'S SAVAGE REPRESSION!
GLORY TO THE FALLEN MINERS OF HUANUNI!
On Tuesday, August 5, the reformist and conciliatory MAS government
savagely repressed Huanuni miners and other workers who were raising
the COB's (Bolivian workers' central union) list of demands. This
repression caused the death of two miners, and 40 people were
injured, most of them because of police gunshots. This attitude [of
the government] contrasts with the passivity displayed during these
almost three years of governing in the face of attacks by the
Juventud Cruceñista [a semi-fascist organization of Santa Cruz] and
landlords who, as in Alto Parapeti, keep our Guaraní brothers and
sisters in conditions of slavery. While the government refuses to
meet the workers' demands, it conciliates and constantly makes
agreements with the right wing, thus allowing the bourgeoisie, the
bosses and the landlords to become stronger and stronger. The right
wing even tries to use the victims from the working class and the
people.
We, the LOR-CI [Revolutionary Workers' League for the Fourth
International], condemn the brutal repression, as well as the
attempts of Manfred, Sabina Cuellar and others, who now want to take
advantage of this situation. We revolutionary socialists demand that
the trade-union leaderships call for the formation of workers',
peasants' and popular self-defense brigades, against the
increasingly repressive attempts by the government, and the attacks
that "civic" elements and businessmen launch against the people of
Oriente.
Let's form workers' self-defense brigades!
