I have been thinking, as the threat of war is looming over the world, who came up with the idea? Who first reminded us that Saddam was a "threat"? Who linked him to 9/11 and why did all this happen?

I suspect (although I am not 100% certain) that the answer to the above questions is Bush, and there are many reasons why he did this, but I would like to knwo the facts, when did he drag Saddam into all this? What was the initial response from the various parts of society? Why did weapons inspectors leave Iraq in the first place?

Information would be much appreciated, no spam or rhetoric please.

Well the link was established by a US report of a iraqui inteligence agent having a conversation with a menber of Al-qaeda ,this is all they have they have yet to show us more. The inspectors left because simply the iraqui troops were not cooperating with the un.But this changed after 9/11.

so you think they are co-operating now??

they left because there was no point to them being there, they coudnt do their job.

i do not know what made bush suddenly decide he wants war but this has been going on for 12 years now and there have been 18 UN resolutions in those 12 years

No I didn't mean they are all nice now but they are not being so defiant whit the threat of war. Before iraqui soldiers really had tough words with the inspectors.

The point of going to war based on Saddams UN defiance isn't a bad point. But, it shuld be carried out by the UN and the UN should put in a new gov't if anything at all is to be done. This would insure a non-US puppet gov't which is more loyal to US oil industries than the iraqi people. Think about it, Saddam had weapons that he isn't allowed to have currently. The inspectors saw them during their last inspections, before the recent ones this year. if Saddam really did destroy them then why doesn't he show the UN where and when. Those facts might be able to stop the war. so i have little doubt that Saddam is defying the UN, but I don't back a US lead war for oil either.
