While I disagree with anti-war protests held throughout the world on the weekend I was not opposed to the manner that they were conducted. With one exception.

In [the Soviet Republic of] Byron Bay, Australia (my hometown), a group of bikers had planned a fund raiser for a rescue helicopter service that is run on donnation. They would sell raffle tickets and take kids for rides on their bikes. The only problem was that this was organised on the same day as the anti-war march. Instead of letting the bikers do there thing the protestors went out of there way to abuse them. Violently (hypocritically) rafle tables were turned upside down and bikers told to "piss off" because they were riding American owned Harleys.

Do you people here agree with the actions of these protestors?

Do you have a link or something I could use to check this out? I'm not entirely sure you're not putting your own spin on the events.

Sorry. I don't have a link. I know this because I live in the town. You have to understand some of the people of Byron Bay, alot of these protestors were pot-smoking hippies.

I don't have a problem with pot-smoking hippies. I am one.

It's just that I've learned over the years not to take anything a capitalist says "just 'cause." I'd like a news source before I comment further.

I may be a "cappie" but i'm not a liar. My friend has written to the local paper about this incident but it won't get printed because "the echo", as it's called, is very much opposed to this war.

I'm not really accusing you of anything, it just smells like bullshit that a peace protest would assault a group of bikers for holding a fundraiser on the same day as their event.

well, if the accusations are true, I have to say that they are relly immature, and I disagree with that sort of behaviour.

What also smells like bullshit is when protesters throw stones and bottles at law enforcement. But, oh yeah, we have video clips of it.. :-

Marijuana is a stimulant. It is not a hallucinagen; it does not work like steroids. Likely, if a lot of the protestors were pot-smoking hippies. They would have been to blasted to organize a protest; let alone get off their stoned asses and go to one. If they did manage to get there, they would likely be laid back the whole time, constantly desiring snacks.

Indeed, but what also smells like bullshit is the fact sometimes protestors who are doing nothing wrong are attacked by these law enforcement officers, despite the fact that it is a small minority of these protesters who resort to violent means of behavior. What smells like bullshit is the fact that if the Klan, or any other Neo-Nazi group, organizes a Hate March they are given police protection; while when anti-war groups organize Peace Marches, they are restricted, and watched like hawks. What smells like bullshit is the fact that when massive groups of people protest against Capitalism, or the American government, you believe that they are 'spoiled, misguided, idiots' - Yet if a group of small people in China, North Korea, Cuba, Iraq, Iran, or any socialistic country, or country that is disliked by the American government protest, they are 'freedom fighters'; and when these government's law enforcement groups smash violent uprising, it is a 'massacre'. When your government responds to a violent attack by protesters, it is 'keeping the peace'.

How can you disagree with an anti war protest? People marching and demonstrating against the senseless slaughter of human beings?

No civilized nation should be 100% committed to the act of war.

How come some members here want the demise of the United States to begin with the slaughter of its citizens?

Hah...I'll try to find the link to the clip of a protest where a masked "anarchist" runs around smashing windows and throwing things at police. Other protesters, including real anarchists, try to stop him so he runs into the police line and they protect him...and then proceed to attack the mass of the protesters for smashing windows and throwing things.

Or how 'bout the one where the cops tell the thousands of people in an enclosed, fenced-off area that they have 10 minutes to disperse...they then give them 5 before they start beating the dispersing crowd.

Or how bout the anarchist march in longbeach where the cops direct the march into a narrow street so that they can beat them more efficiently (without provocation).

Just to be really pedantic, dope is actually a depressant.

Steroids (anabolic) are not hallucinogens, they are anabolic agents.
