thursday night
10th February 2003, 06:56
Hugo Chavez has stated that he will imprision the thousands of oil workers who striked against the people's government in support of the former ruling fascist oligarchy. Let's hope he does it, it's about time he took a firm hand to these upper middle class thugs and ruffians.

Big relief to know he is taking some action now!

Personally I think it is not enough. Chavez needs to imprison these oligarchy supporters and when they bring their ruffianly selves out to the streets to protest against the people’s government he needs to deal with them in the only way they’ll understand and the only way it will end: a few tanks, a few soldiers. It’s not a pretty thing, though if Chavez says he’s making a revolution he should do as such by the quote:
“One cannot make a revolution with silk gloves.”

Now going back to the topic, the reason why Chavez is getting strong on his enemys It's because like he said"It's our turn to bat".The oposition has done all the damage It can do no since they showed what they really stand for the goverment can act with more than enough reason.

Yes they are but when the boses are the ones ORDERING and ATTACKING the workers so they'll stay home, well that's a diferent story. If you see how many people were fired you'll noticed they are all boses in charge of diferent sectors of the oil industry.Only the heads of the oil company were on strike not the everyday worker that sufered the most from this strike, not to mention things like TORTURE!

Thursday night, this is the best I can do for you...
"Caracas, Feb 16 (Télam-SNI).- The Government of Venezuela froze the fees of some utilities and services such as, telephone, healthcare services, transportation fares y and fees of private school, while the expectatives increase regarding the exchange rate control the incoming week.
The official resolution, published on the newspaper "El Universal", freezes the fares of public transportation back to Nov. 29, telephone rates back to August 2002, enrollment fees and monthly school fees back to those in effect since July 2001, and those of health care services back to Nov. 30.
Dollar closed by the end of 2002 with a rate of 1.350 bolívares but rose up to 1.800 bolívares at the beginning of this month, in the middle of a two-month general strike against the government, resulting in the government's suspension of currency sales three weeks ago and to decret an exchange control with an official price of 1.600 bolívares that has not yet started to be in effect. (Télam-SNI)."

It's good to see Chavez is so commited to the democratic process. DICKHEADS!!!

Obviously he is or he would have cancelled the next Presidential elections. I’d also like to know how taking action against people bent on sabotaging a fragile economy implies non-commitment to the democratic process.

Indeed Thursday. Liberty Lover; if people did something like that here in America we would be considered 'terrorists'. We would likely be sent to prison; possibly even tried for treason, which is an offense punishable by death. Why is it that when your country smashes some form of justified opposition, it is good; while when socialistic countries smash unproductive, unjustified, acts of sabatoge, it is evil and undemocratic? If Chavez is evil why does he have the support of his entire nation? Why aren't the people of Venezuela living in some Orwellian nightmare?

Seems like he does indeed have a lot of support! :) It is interesting to look at pro-Chavez rallies and anti-Chavez rallies. At the pro, we see working-class people who are wearing non-descript clothing and who really look proud. At anti, we see younger people wearing very expensive (soccer jerseys, Nike etc) clothing and looking very bored, mildly waving flags in timid motions.

What do you mean, Bullshit!? How the fuck do you think he got elected! I am so TIRED of the constant hypocricy! If I were to talk about how the majority of the population of my country didn't vote for ythat Republican, you would be all over the place! Oh, but if you rant on about a few anti-chavez idiots; regardless of the fact that Chavez recieved the popular vote; you're taking a stand for democracy? You liar!
