on one of my frequent drunken nights out, i happened to come across a new chippie i never used before. went in there, and there was some foreign guy serving. i got talking and asked him where he was from. the guy said Lithuanisa. i said, 'ah, ex-USSR, bet your glad you got rid of the Russians'. to my utter amazment, he went off on one about how great the USSR was and how good Stalinism was. he said it gave you certaint things without question like food, housing and a job. i actually argued with him by saying surely things are better now youre an independant nation, but he wasn't having any of it. he was only in his 20's but he sure as fuck loved Stalinism.
just thought i'd let you know that even though i think Stalinism is the second worst ideology after National Socialism.
(PS, Still drunk so forgive bad grammar)

I never heard it before, but I'm guessing a chippie's a bar or pub, considering he's drunk.

The fact is the USSR provided it’s people with housing, food, medical care, education, freedom from the violent waves of capitalism and it’s horrors, a guaranteed job or career and so on. Is this not news to you guys, since you consider yourselves to be ‘leftists’? Theoretical issues aside, the Soviet Union provided the average working person with a far better life than they have now in the Russian Federation, where the income gap has widened considerably and the social infrastructure is in shambles at best.
Not to mention the Soviet Union helped rebuild the Socialist Bloc. after the devastation World War Two had on Eastern Europe (in fact during Eastern Europe’s socialist period there was never in that area such a vast period of peace), and helped build the Republic of Cuba into the hugely successful socialist state it is today.

In fact, and IMO, the current Russian Federation only provided sharp poverty to its people, and destroyed what the USSR had so successfully built up over so many years.

yeah, well, credit where credits due. this Lithuanian guy seemed to dig the USSR. and it weren't nostalgia because the guy wasn't that old. maybe its just the capitalist new order is that bad in the ex Soviet Union, that Stalinism seems like a good shout. you got to feel sorry for people if there country is in that situation; being in a choice between bandit capitalism and harsh Stalinsim. lets hope the Ruskies get it sorted soon.

Let’s hope they do indeed get it all sorted out, by bringing back socialism.
A series of graffiti written on a wall in Warsaw:
“Bring back communism!”
“We never had communism!”
“Then bring back what we had!”

yeah lets hope they do bring 'back' socialism. but then an economy in the hands of 10 geriatrics in a Politburo aint really what ol' Marx had in my mind when he said the workers should control the means of production and enjoy the fruits of there labour.
