STATEMENT BY STOP THE WAR COALITION

Colin Powell’s statement to the United Nations yesterday was not so much a smoking gun as manufactured dry ice designed to cover up George Bush’s preparations for an unlawful war of aggression.

The evidence presented was flimsy at best – a mish-mash of unproven assertions, unverifiable photographs and innuendo.

But even if every word was true it would not provide a justification for war. Any genuine evidence of Iraqi possession of weapons of mass destruction could easily be handed over to UN inspectors for verification.

It is clearer than ever that this is not about such weapons, nor about even more implausible allegations of an Iraqi link with Al-Qaeda. The US, with Blair’s support, is set on a war for regime change, something that is illegal under the UN Charter and will cause enormous bloodshed and global instability.

All the evidence is that no-one – from other members of the UN Security Council to British public opinion – has been convinced by Powell’s performance. The demonstrations to be held around the world on February 15, and above all in London, will underline the international isolation of Bush and Blair in their warmongering.

This frivolous drivel does not speak for the American people or their interests.

you mean it doesn't speak for YOU. You shouldn't refer to yourself as plural, it makes you sound of 'royal blood' i.e. stuck up.

It does speak for a large amount of people from nearly every nation.

Speaks for me.

I'm not surprised, hampton.

You are among the lowest, pantywaist liberal scum I've seen on this board, you wretch.

If you would rather refute evidence and lend creedence to this piece of insipid filth, so be it. Let the record reflect that your lack of support for your nation is duly noted.

Thank you for those kind words. By the way, what are you doing to celebrate Black History Month?

Going to set up wiretaps and spy on groups who want to better their community? Maybe even get some spies into the group to collect information and set up a raid on no evidence and kill everyone in the room? Or have some cops pull over a group of blacks and murder them in cold blood? How about that pesky 13th Amendment?

I am studying up on Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, and Mr Keyes.

They are truly great Americans of African Decent.

Hampton where are you coming from with all of this.... Did you come out of NOWHERE with this?

"By the way, what are you doing to celebrate Black History Month? "

What does black history month have to do with ANYTHING this topic was about?!?! Am I missing something, im sorry if i am?

It has everything to do with Colin Powell. Here you have a rich black man who is in a very high position in government. This month, February, is Black History Month. This month Colin has pushed and pushed to go to war on the people of Iraq.

You would think that he would have some sympathy for people who cannot defend themselves against an evil government and who have suffered with a decade of sanctions that leave thousands dead every month.

Then you have Condoleezza Rice who has a Chevron oil tanker named after her, need I say more?

And I was curious how a capitalist would go about celebrating a month that is dedicated to people who they oppress.

I don't celebrate it, seeing as how I'm not black. Just as I'm sure you don't celebrate Asian history month either.

Personally the idea of dedicating an entire month to the history of a specific racial group seems rather idiotic to me.

I don' t think the month is exclusively for black people.. I think the month is about learning and embracing about a culture that you normally would not.
