Surprisingly enough even the neo-nazis are divided on this issue. Some call it a 'hoax', while others praise it and its objective, but choose to play down the numbers. Personally I think it's just something people do with their free time to gain attention. And jail time, in some cases :cool:

Fear of negative public perception though you would think that denying it outright is just as bad as being proud of it right?

Fascists seeking power via the ballot box will only ever question the official numbers of those who died (a sly way of holocaust denial as technically you aren't saying that less died, which is holocaust revisionism, you are just questioning how many actually died which could imply that you mean more could have died).

Fascists seeking power via revolution are usually split on all three options with some denying it outright as a hoax (holocaust denial), some who question the official numbers of those who died implying that it was far less then what is the widely accepted figure (holocaust revisionism) and those who are proud of it (wankers).

Because a lot of people agree with the ract sentiments of the nazis but are put off by the mass genocide that they are historically responsible for.

Nazis understand that it generally puts most people off when they say they want to kill millions of people. They want to look like legitimate, upstanding people who are protecting the community, not mass-murdering psychos. This is why the German state did not publicize the atrocities that were committed in the concentration camps. They knew that people might not have a problem with their racism and "deporting" jews, but if people had known exactly what was going on in the camps, it probably would not have been too popular.

Because If the killing of the jews never happened then Hitler was a hero. The only person willing to stand up to stalin who had by then killed 22 million civilians [not my numbers but the numbers of conservatives].

This would mean that the market for hitlers ideas and memory amongst mainstream reactionairies would go through the roof.

And the scary part is that they dont need to prove their case, just raising doubt about aspects of the official history is enough. Since reactionaries dont believe anything that the USSR said and progressives still dont believe anything the USA says.

I think that idea is never going to gain any significant ideological ground, except perhaps among the fascists own ranks. I'm all for questioning the official story of things, as I think we all are, but there is absolutely no evidence to support the holocaust denial claim. It's just nazi garbage.

This is such an exaggeration in the first place. Most importantly, these were not "innocent civilians" in most cases. Most were enemies of the Proletariat, and such actions are necessary in times of war.

In the eyes of the nazis the Jews they killed were not "innocent" either. You are using the exact same rational as the nazis.

But thats all beside the point. The reactionaries believe those people to be innocent victims, which means that if Hitler hadnt killed the jews, he would be a reactionary hero of sorts. Right now the nazis are tiny fringe groups. If hitler hadnt killed the jews the market for their ideas, particularly anti-semitism, would be much much larger.
