i kind like the music though not the trend but still making it illegal is a bit far
I never got the whole emo and goth thing, but I don't see the point in banning it.

You would think the Russians would be more concerned about the huge waves of violent Nazis that are emerging:confused:

Speaking of that, I would think they would ban Neo-Nazi bands first.

Emo is fucking awful, but this kind of law needs to be fought, not just so emo kids are free to be how they want to be, but because it can also extend to everyone else.

From the article:
Alexander Grishunin, an adviser to bill sponsor Yevgeny Yuryev, described a ban as necessary, stating: "This is the first step in the public discourse." Banning it is the first step in public discussion? How very Russian .

Seriously tho, this is ridiculous.

This is even more ridiculous. Whats there to discuss? 10 ways to spot an emo?

You guys are killing me. I kinda like the new emo scene. Yeah there are some that did that whole "kill me thing" but whatever. The music is pretty good and actually were I live the newer emo kids dress alot different than other emo scenes I have seen over time. They actually are more like skaters and over all that scene is changing.
Anyways I think they get the short end of the stick on alot of levels. Wether they get flack for being "homosexuals" or not "masculine" enough or well like we just saw with the razor blade remarks.
Still though this is lame on the part of Russia. And honestly I have a ton of more respect for alot of the emo scene these days than alot of other subcultures.

Maybe if it's forced underground, emo music and culture will become more interesting?:D

Well after seeing pictures of some of the users here I hardly think they should be worrying about the emo scene:p:lol:

It shouldn't be banned, but emo sucks. It sucks . It sucks. It sucks on satan's cock all day as if heroin were being shot out of it.

This is ridiculous.
There have always been kids who've dressed 'outlandishly'. It's more about liking the style because you think it looks cool rather than being depressed or anything.
If there is a reason that emo kids are more prone to depression maybe it's because they feel a.) alienated from the mainstream culture to the extent they would adopt a fringe (NO PUN INTENDED! HAH!) subculture (that kind of thing would make people in that situation feel a lot better, if anything) and so banning a certain kind because you think it looks creepy is absolutely pointless, or b.) because they cop so much shit for dressing how they like?
Kids that are depressed will be depressed no matter what they look like (especially if they're forced to stop dressing how they want) and I highly doubt that the emo subculture either contains more people who are depressed or encourages depression!
... On another note;
Heather Bond criticised emo fashion, saying: "There are 'emo' websites that show pink teddies hanging themselves."

On the upside, this will give them the opportunity to get some really cool and authentic Russian prison tattoos.

Seriously, though: it's pathetic what the Russian government seems to consider an important issue.
May I redirect your attention to this thread and ask for your input?
