(Washington, DC / Miami, FL) Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption and abuse, said today that it has filed suit on behalf of a victim and survivor of the September 11th terrorist attacks against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, its President, Hugo Chavez, and the Venezuelan Ambassador to India, Walter Marquez, for their material, financial, and other support and assistance of Osama bin Laden and the al Qaeda terror network.
Hugo Chavez has close ties to communist Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro, and is widely considered to be his protege. Castro is a known terrorist, who according to Bush Administration officials, possesses biological and chemical weapon facilities on his island nation, among other terrorist means. The U.S. State Department has officially designated Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism. Chavez, as president of Venezuela, and in furtherance of his radical, terrorist agenda, initiated a plan to assist, aid and abet bin Laden and al Qaeda to relocate and train terrorists for future attacks on the United States, domestically and abroad, by providing them with at least $1,000,000.00, as reported in WorldNetDaily and Global News Wire and EFE News Service. Chavez sent the $1,000,000.00 to his ambassador in the region, Marquez, and Marquez arranged to take the money to Afghanistan. Once there, $100,000.00 was paid to the Taliban and $900,000.00 to bin Laden and al Qaeda. These funds reportedly supported terrorist acts aimed at Americans and U.S. interests domestically and abroad.
The victims’ and survivors’ lawsuit claims Wrongful Death and Conspiracy, as well as claims under the Anti-Terrorism Act (18 U.S.C. § 2333), and the Alien Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. §1350).
“Like Castro, Chavez and his henchmen have the blood of thousands of innocent people on their hands. Judicial Watch, on behalf of its clients, and in the interest of the American people at large, will continue to pursue terrorists and those that support them through the courts and by all legal means available,” stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.
