Is it wrong for a Marxist-Leninist party (like the Party of Socialism and Liberty) to run for office in USA elections? On the face of it, IMO it's just a stupid idea, because the average voter has a negative judgment of all things communist. If they had a chance in hell of being elected, I's say yes, go for it. What are the issues involved? Why do they do it?

I wouldn't say that it's wrong, that's an odd description of it. Many see it as pointless and a waste of time. I believe that the Party for Socialism and Liberation's reason for doing it is to raise awareness of the support that a Communist Party can receive in an election.

Don't run in elections.

The reason parties do this is because they lack a revolutionary analysis of the state. Remember, this is a Dictatorship of the Bourgeoisie. It is not in any meaningful sense a democracy. Elections are used only because and only to the extant that they are useful to the Bourgeoisie.

If there was a chance of victory then electoral politics could come into play only as part of an overall revolutionary strategy. But in this stage of the game, it's a huge mistake.

Ofcourse it has no chance, but as KurtFF8 (http://www.revleft.com/vb/../member.php?u=13879) said already, its a good way to get more popularity.
