The european union tends to become an empire meant to counter the expansive US
What I see is that it becomes more and more bureaucratic, out of reach of common people, erving the false ideals of capitalism.
The european machinery will suffocate any attempts of liberation and I think it will be the most important obstacle in the development of democracy and socialism.

I agree with you completely!
The EU are just a group of power craving people with only their own interests at heart. They obviously don't know how to govern their way out of a paper bag, judging by the regulations and red tape they have brought in. Some are just down right ridiculous.

God give it a chance Ghost, the league of nations had 20 years to fail at least give the EU another 20 years then slag it off.

But the EU has already been going for more than 30.

The people or men in grey (bureucrats) in charge of the EU don't know the people who they are governing so they mess it all up. It could be great but at the moment it's just a mess.

You say the EU has only its own interests at heart but GB puts more £££ into it than any other nation, which is why we have more internatiobnal trade within europe than any other nation.
And the 20 years thing was about the Euro.

How's the EU economy doing today? Is it in anyway going into a decline? Do you guys have any sources where I can read about the EU's economy? I need to support my thesis, but I'm too lazy...asdf.

The Euro from what i here is doing well, its stabalised at an ideal level, but it could apparently do with being a bit stronger. Which is why they want the UK to join. I belive its about 1.6 euros to every £.
God knows what the recession in the German economy will do though.

Eventually, any emerging European empire and its interests would soon enough conflict with the North American empire and its interests.
What an interesting Scenario

It was clear from the beginning that if a "European Superstate" emerged, there would be a conflict of interests with the US. Many of us look to the EU to move towards the left, as Europe has always been the main source of leftist thinkers (eg, Marx, Engels, Satre, Rosa Luxemburg, need I go on?).
Obviously I am not expecting another USSR to emerge, using the landmass of Western Europe but I would like to see a welfare state or collection of states being developed, however this will clearly take time, how much I cannot tell, but there is mroe hope for the EU than the US.

The EU will never move left because it has people like Tony Blair running it. I hope that he would just allow things to run properly. But no.
