Last sunday i drove home from work,
a cop-car parked downtown,
a rookie i call 'Baby Face'.
he ran my plates and found out my license was suspended.
So he follwed me and turned on his lights.
I pulled over because i know what it means.
He asked me "Do you know why your license was suspended?"
and i hadn't known that it was,
So i said "No. I didn't even know that it is."
it was an unpaid ticket i got for not wearing my seatbelt.
He called for back up,
he called for a tow truck,
and he told me i had twenty minutes to get someone to come down drive my car home or it would be towed and i'd be arrested.
So i called a friend and she was on her way
but it was going to take her a half hour.
The tow truck got there before she did,
and back up arrived very shortly after that.
This whole scene was blocking traffic on the road.
The officers sent the tow truck away,
and told me they were now being nice.
they told me i wasn't going to be arrested,
and they were being nice.
we got to talking,
they acused me of having a bad attitude.
Riley was his name,
the back-up officer.
He told us he had two in the back seat sitting that he'd just picked up.
Riley told me i had a bad attitude,
he told me multiple times that he was being nice in that he hadn't arrested me yet.
He reminded me more than once that he could and warned me to keep my mouth shut.
i said
"Well i'm not calling you Fascists,
but i did call you Fascists."
this would later haunt me,
just wait.
So then my friend showed up,
we were all talking about where i work,
just down the street,
at the Pizza Place.
The cops eat there all the time,
i'd made their food before,
i'd taken their orders.
Well when they found that out
they made a joke
"Oh no, better be careful-"
and my friend said,
"Oh don't worry, she'd never spit in your food."
and that's always true, even if i don't like someone.
but i said
"Yes i would,
you just wait,
next time you order a cheeseburger sub,
you're gonna get some of the special sauce
and i'll make it myself just for you."
and she was like
"Nuh-uh, no you won't"
and i said
"Yes actually i will."
i thought the whole scene was very funny at the time.
it's not so fun any more,
here's why:
They called my boss and told on me.
I work in a small town where everybody knows everybody.
I'm not from that town i just work there,
i live in the town next door.
i'm not from the town next door, either,
i've just been living there for a few months.
so i'm an outsider.
Not only that but i'm what they consider "the Tall girl with Tattoos"
because i'm 5'7"
and i've got tattoos on my left fore arm.
tall, girl, tattoos, big mouth, 'fascists', 'spit'.
all this they told my boss.
My boss laughed at me,
he made fun of me for getting the cops mad at me.
he had me explain my definition of "fascist"
and he was interested to hear.
My boss isn't from that town either,
he just owns a business there.
Today i was at work,
a man came in and sat at a table facing me.
he didn't order anything,
but he did stare into my eyes.
i stared back.
at first it didn't raise my attention,
i was in the process of making some food.
i looked up, saw him staring,
looked at him,
looked down again,
looked up, noticed him still staring,
looked back down again...
i was at work.
and then i looked up and he was still staring and i was done with that order and i got to staring and thinking like
"What, is he a cop or something? Is he one of my enemies?"
and he looked away.
it made me laugh to think i have enemies,
but i'd never seen him before in my life.
I went out back for something and my boss told me that guy was a police sargent from three towns over,
friends with the police sargent from here.
so when i walked out into the dining room to put sodas in the cooler and he was standing at the counter i looked at him and he looked at me and i nodded and he narrowed his eyes.
he told my boss he'd be back soon,
and my boss told me he was coimg back with the town sargent.
i left before they came back,
i was finished with my shift.
i have had to deal with this for three days now,
it's annoying.
going to work is like asking for it.
i don't want conflict,
i don't want to talk about it,
but that's what i've got,
and i've had to talk all day.
and tomorrow will be more of the same.
...
"Fascist: an authoritiarian nationalist with a preference for centralized government and a militaristic approach to maintaining the status quo. Also likes uniforms, heirarchical chains of command, and placing the state or religion above the individual. Dislikes critical opposition."
That's how i understand the word, that's what i told my boss, and that's what i think of cops,
even the "nice" ones.
i'm glad i'm not arrested,
who wouldn't be?
i don't want prison,
i don't want an impounded car,
i dont want to fight about anything.
i hope they know that.
i was just joking when i used the word fascist,
yeah it was based on my beliefs,
but i wasn't being malicious.
perhaps i was being sarcastic, but not mean about it,
i was laughing at them for being what they are.
ideally they would've laughed at themselves,
because they'd have accepted the truth a long time ago.
but they think they're not fascists.
they think they're not fascists because they aren't Nazis or Terrorists or consciously members of the Fascist Party.
Am I wrong?
They've taken my words out of context and they're using them to try to make me look bad.
