I saw a thread in the learning section about police. Was wondering what people in OI thought on the matter.

Firstly, what does everyone think of the police. Sure you might hate them but dont give me they are the tools of the western dictatorship blah blah blah. We all "know" that. With a revolution pretty god damn unlikely to happen soon, are they not vital to today's society?

Even with me being a hot shot Capitalist and all of that--I avoid them. I kind of think of them as kind of bad buys that we keep on retainer to keep the even worse bad guys from bothering us.

That's not to say there aren't good cops and some of them that are wonderful people--but as a whole I don't trust them.

But let's be clear here. I don't much need cops. There's no bad guys in my gated community and we have our own people anyway. There's little to no crime where I live. What the cops really do is protect the lower classes from the criminals. And for the most part, they do a pretty good job--or at least they try to do a good job.

So over all as far as society goes--I have to give them a favorable rating--I just don't trust them and don't want anything to do with them.

Of course I agree that cops are necessary in any kind of society, and I think that cops, like any one else, can be decent, honest people.

Cops in capitalist society though, I believe, are more often than not either too stupid to be an authority on anything, or, using the profession as a kind of "tough-guy" substitute to fill in their lost sense of masculinity.

I have yet to meet a cop who knew as much as myself about anything.

I personally pay no attention to them unless I am trying to get away from them, obviously. I say that if I am breaking the law....there is a damn good reason why I am breaking the law, and that reason supercedes anything they think, say, or do.

Furthermore, my criminal acts are instigated by consequences of the capitalist system. The police serve the law of the capitalist system- they are therefore a natural adversary to me.
