I was just wondering if anyone is aware of any theoretical writing which addresses the use and content of humour and how it might fit into a broader theory; of class-conflict; the capitalist paradigm; hegemonic political discourses and so on.

Nothing? I can't help feeling that somewhere in amongst Gramsci's hegemony and Bourdieu's symbolic violence there's a way to undertsand humour within a Marxian framework. Maybe it's just me that thinks this is an interesting area for the application of theory?

What has Marx got to do with humour? Why would you ever analyse humour from a marxist viewpoint? Sounds mental.
