View Full Version : Racist Employer

Someone recently pointed out to me that they'd never seen anyone black working where I work. Before that, I'd never really thought about it, but they were right. Without me ever bringing it up again, another employer there admitted that the boss was racist and would never hire anyone black.
Now when black people come in to apply, I feel terrible for them. It's so sad that we still haven't moved pass such backwards thinking.

Have you considered what you can do as an employee?

Without more details, it's hard to give any advice.. What kind of place do you work at, and in what country? Do you have a steady employment contract yourself, and are you guys unionised? If so, bring this up with the union.

It's a medium-size newspaper in the U.S. Not unionised. Some are salary, some are hourly. I'm the latter.

I would suggest the following:
1) Begin by speaking to fellow employees with whom you are friends, or have casual acquaintances. Figure out if they are sympathetic to your feelings. If so, have them speak to their friends, etc...
2) Write a letter to your boss, detailing why this racism is unacceptable. Have it signed by as many workers as possible. The more the better. Make sure it reads "We, the undersigned, find...". Do not single yourself out as the proverbial 'ringleader.'
3) Place this letter on your bosses desk and wait and see.
This may involve courage as your job could be on the line, but if you garner enough support you should be fine.

PS: Are you really a nihilist? If so, we should talk about that - it's a tough place to be.

I can't really help any with the op, but I'm gonna go a little off-topic

Why is it a though place to be in? I think it is hilarious that there are no meaning to anything. I find nothing more funny than that there are no meanings. It's what always keeps me cheerful and happy. I'm not a full blown nihilist though.

I won't give a full response at the risk of hi-jacking the thread. If you would like to discuss the dangers of nihilism, please create a new thread and I would be happy to discuss these with you, and anyone else interested.

a lot of countries have anti-racist laws in the workplace so depending on what country you are in you could report his ass.

I am indeed, and I would like to hear more on why you believe it to be a tough place to be.
