TOKYO.—A summit meeting of the eight richest countries in the world (G-8) ends today in the Toyako Visitor Center in this city with a meeting of dignitaries from five emerging economies.
In the meeting, the G-8 leaders will cover issues like climate change and price hikes on food and fuel with representatives from the Group of Five: Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa.
The Summit will later be joined by the governors of Australia, Indonesia and South Korea and four international institutions, in an event known as the Meeting of Major Economies (MEM).
Yesterday, the G-8 agreed to reduce polluting gas emissions by 50% by 2050 and to double aid to Africa for 2010, which came well below expectations. (PL)
