In late June, during a visit to California, Funes said he would not remove El Salvador from the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), adding, "We will respect trade deals with other countries, including the one with the United States and with Central America. (...) And we will keep the dollar because scrapping it would generate uncertainty."

So now El Salvador's people can look forward to grinding poverty, exploitation, and death squads under the neo-liberal establishment's 'Socialist' International brand. The 'Socialist' International movement is also responsible for the neo-liberal exploitation and working-class blood shed by Mexico's PRI , Venezuela's Accion Democratica, Colombia's Liberal Party (yep...That fascist asshole Uribe is a Socialist International member...By those standards, you can see why people mistakenly associate Adolf Hitler with socialism.) and Peru's Peruvian Aprista Party. The radical reformist governments of Ecuador, Venezuela, and Bolivia are not associated with the Socialist International, of which Venezuela's largest and most tyrannical opposition party is a member.

The "Socialist International" is as disgusting as you say, but the FMLN is not a member or even associated as far as I am aware, I can't find any info. online indicating that they are. I don't doubt that Funes and his party are "moderating" their positions to ensure their election, our erstwhile comrade Danny O. in Nicaragua has been pursuing some questionable policies to say the least and at the same time contending with a quisling splinter of his own movement that Chomsky is supposedly backing now!

Even though talk like this is extremely discouraging we also need to keep in mind how royally fucked the political situation in Central America is. Free trade has much more "support" there than in South America thanks to history, a tremendous propaganda campaign, and the fact that the sovereignty of these nations is far more compromised than the most debased countries in South America. Let's remember that even Chávez campaigned as a "Third Way" candidate. Even if Funes isn't making some kind of sly calculation but really believes all this centrist bullshit some appallingly corrupt social-democrat is surely better than the genocidal crypto-falangist ARENA which has been in power ever since the Yankees helped them win the civil war.:( Also, the U.S. imperialist modus operandi has tended to be much more strong armed and less flexible than Europe's, it's quite possible that they will reject even a compromised leftist party with a guerilla history in power and seemingly inevitable that El Salvador under the FMLN would gravitate towards the new Latin American bloc of reformist anti-imperialist capitalism.

Do you understand how Important el Salvador this is the key to building a new central america with the fmln winning . The other movements can gain steam.

When it comes to free trade we all know the fmln with support unions and trade unions building and strengthening the young and new unions in that country also the dollar is weak right now but still is stronger than most currency's and has tremendous buying power which can help out the people of el Salvador if use in the right way el Salvador can change in matter of years.

We haven't even open trade talks with china who is right now helping build many third world country's infrastructures once fmln is power that would probably be one the first things done to broker a deal with china also with other leftist nations. Right now it is the policy of arena to not talk to any left leaning nation only extreme right i mean gosh we consider tawian a freaken nation right now that's how fucked up the arena party is were on losing side right now.
