this happened on July 7. Argentina is in the middle of a prolonged struggle between the agricultural producers who want to be allowed to make an even larger profit (they are making the largest profit for over 50 years) and the government who wants the "oligarchy" to pay its share and fund the whole of the Argentine bourgeoisie -the govt. is supproted by industrialists etc.

last week both of these camps, the "campo" and the government, putup tents outsie of congress where loals and tourists all went by to visit, before a big vote on the issue, and it was all something of a carnival, no repression, no real police presence, and all of this outside the Congress.

anyway, a number of left groups (Polo Obrero the unemployed workers organisation, and Quebracho, who are actually a pretty reacionary nationalist "anti-imperialist" group who support Ahmadinejad etc. ut who nonetheless claim to be socialist) tried to put up a tent of their own in the main Square outside the government house (the Pink House), a tent saying "neither with the government nor the oligarchy". anyway, what followed can only be described as a police riot, many people were injured, though some militants did thankfully defend the protest, and 8 police were "injured", though of course what counts as an injry for a cop is never counted as an injury for the rest. the next day however, 6000 people turned up for a much bigger march, int he centre of Buenos Aires, and the police were forced to let them rally in front of the government house and denounce the repression.

I leave you with a sequence of videos ont he left side of this page at the top which shows the protesters first trying to put up the tent, and then being repressed, follow them in order, 1 is below 2 but above three but go by number:confused:

good videos anyway

A shame that every serious candidate last election was right of Kirchner.
