Reason:
LU1845: This product was not updated due to a processing error.
and it wont let me turn the auto protect back on , wtf?:blink:
Get rid of Norton; it sucks. Stop using IE, start using Firefox.
Don't go to stupid sites. When you look at porn figure out good sites that don't contain viruses.

Get AVG Free and Clamwin anti-virus.
I never use any anti-virus and I've never had a problem with viruses, so I don't understand why it's necessary at all (and I torrent).

You probably have viruses you don't know about. Even when I used Firefox w/ Windows I'd get worms and tracking cookies all the time just browsing the web.
Get Linux. No security needed!

Yeh, as already stated, ditch IE, go for firefox. Also ditch Norton, I would go for either Kaspersky, Eset Secuirty Center, or Panda Security Center. Linux is also an option that should be considered, ubuntu is my favorite linux distro.

I went on-line to Kasperky's web site last year and took advantage of their free on-line scan, while I was using Norton, and that sacn discovered over 50 trojans and other malware on my computer that Norton had missed!
So, I switched to Kasperky --, and it's cheaper!

Slow as a turtle but free:

Their repository is updated regularly and all you need is an uninterrupted internet connection for about 1.45 hours

I know it's already been said but Linux is a much better alternative.

Sorry to sound like a broken-record, but dump IE, get the Fox. Dumb Norton, get AVG.
Norton does have a good firewall, but Zonealarm is good too-possibly better.

Even so, you would all be wise and try out the free on-line check at Kaspersky, which finds things other programs miss.

I wouldn't trust any of those online scanners. Who knows what they do with all the data they mine, and anyway, why would you want some corporation to have an index of essentially all of the files on your computer, timestamped and tied to your IP address? Remember if it's "free" they're still finding some way to profit off of it, and encouraging you to buy the, in this case, Kaspersky Suite, doesn't cut it. Chances are that data is being sold off by the bucketful to various corporate and State interests.
Get AVG Free and Clamwin anti-virus.
AVG has a bad reputation for mislabeling many cracks and keygens as 'trojans' and therefore spreads the paranoia that pirated software is full of viruses and malware (don't get me wrong, some of it is, but AVG intentionally propagates disinformation to attempt to discredit the use of pirated software).
I'd encourage everyone to also at least try out open source AV solutions that don't rely on proprietary corporate engines like most of those previously mentioned. For instance, give Moon Secure (http://www.moonsecure.com) a whirl, (or the aforementioned ClamWin (http://www.clamwin.com/)). Moon may not look as 'slick' as the proprietary bulkware like Norton does, but it does the job just fine. If you are going for a closed-source option, then get yourself a copy of NOD32, it consistently ranks at the top of the charts and is renowned for its light footprint (meaning it doesn't take up a lot of your computer's resources).
Also keep in mind that installing Firefox or even switching to *nix isn't some magical panacea that's to be used as an excuse for not developing basic safety habits like not opening unknown files. Try thinking about when you first noticed the odd behavior and what you downloaded that day. If you keep a web history, take a look at what websites you visited around that date...

Good point, but I seem to have survived the ordeal. And my computer now works far bettter with those 50+ items of malware Norton missed having been removed. I am sure that those items were doing far worse things than Kaspersky ever will.
And, if the security services want data from my computer, they have highly qualified hackers who can obtain if for them quite easily, by-passing Kaspersky.
Finally, I have relatives who are computer experts and they tell me that Kaspersky is among the very best you can buy.
So, if you are using Norton, you deserve all you no doubt have already got.
