I'm a Commie!
I'm also looking to join the Revolutionary Communist Party--but it seems they only take your money, but don't have a membership--is that true?
Are there any other (American) Communist Parties do you think I should join?

Deciding which org to join is an important question for most committed revolutionaries. Why would you want to support two leftist parties at the same time?
The CPUSA won't let you join the RCP or any other organized group unless it's a community issue-type of organization that they created or have entered.

You can know all thing that are knowable by asking questions and doing research to find the answers. But, you don't seem like a serious person, and that is who the CPUSA always likes to recruit. So, you might be in the right place.

the concept of a "purging" of a political movement makes me slightly nauseous.:bored: why can't you have an expiration date, where you either contribute positively or your just removed from the party roster?
also, no one has to pay money to be a democrat or a republican, so why should i pay money to be something i can simply state myself a supporter of? seems like CPA is about as effective as either of our more mainstream political parties.:D

The CPUSA is the first and only political party or organization I have ever joined.
I have no other plans--unless something similar (but different) comes along. I plan to go to any meetings I'm invited to and report back to RevLeft what I see.
If I can, of course, I'll try and take the organization over--but no matter what, I'll be honest to you in my reportage.

Um.... having been there recently, I can tell ya-- it ain't no sixty dollars.
I don't know if that was a lie, proper-- but it's definitely an untruth. Which is to say, it may have been given, but it's certainly not required.
I'm reluctant to speculate on motivations without much info.

Regular dues payments are a requirement of membership. Dues are set at two levels: $60 annual/$5 monthly, as well as a low-income rate of $24 annual/$2 monthly.
Dues payments are divided between the local (club), state and national levels of the Party, and used for political work. They are also an important organizational tool that helps us to gauge membership participation.
If you are already a member of the Party, you can pay your dues online below, via PayPal.

I sent them a check for $60.
You might have taken the $24 route. :)
Also, I did this over the holiday weekend--so they may get back to me with aditional fees.

We do have a membership. But you can't just send a check and get a membership card. The RCP is a Marxist-Leninist organization. This means to be a member, you need to know in detail about the party's line and have a sophisticated understanding of Maoist theory. You must have done work with the party for some period of time and be recommended by two party members or proletarians with whom you've worked. Also, I doubt they'd let you in if you were a member of the CPUSA.
Are there any other (American) Communist Parties do you think I should join?

However, one needn't fork over $60 before being allowed to join.
Or even $24, for that matter.
But then, I joined face to face. Your mileage may vary.

I didn't do it as a joke. I don't agree with everything Communist 100%--but I did it for the same reason I'm here at revLeft--I'm learning. Now I do joke around a bit--but that's just my personality.
I'm pretty serious about learing about Marxism--I'm not the greatest economic theorist in the world--but when it comes to practicle applications--nobody's better.
You know I wasn't serious about Communism at all when I first joined here, and I'm far from being totally commited to Revolution and all of that--but I've grown to respect your point of view on a lot of matters--especially where it comes to fairness to workers.
I'm still anti-abortion and I'm still a committed Catholic--but there's a lot of things that I find rather refreshing in Communism. Anyway--I'm learning.

I have started five Worker Soviets and one Supreme Worker Soviet--I doubt many of your RPC buddies have ever done that! And proletarians that I have worked with, ha! I have a truck load of proletarians that will vouch for me. Literally a truck load--a 20 foot Ford desel box truck full of proletarians that will say I'm the best Communist they've ever seen. As for still being a member of the CPUSA--let me see how this goes for a while. I would like to be head of the St. Petersburg Workers Soviet (just like Trotsky:lol:) first--and then I may ask you where I should deliver my truck load of proletarian workers. :)

Sounds like more liquidationist 'merge into the mass movement' madness. 'Fascists' in proper term do not exist, they are nothing but the bogeyman of the ultra-left. How about you stop acting like we are living in the pre-WWII period and start criticizing the mainstream bourgeois proper.

...but there's plenty of people would tell you that there is nothing contradictory about being a Catholic and a Communist. It's called liberation theology, of course, and most of what you'll find to read about it is probably in Spanish, though there's doubtless materials in Portugese as well, and probably in Italian, come to think of it. What do the Fundamentalists have to sell the poor and disenfanchised that we Communists aren't able to sell them?
