So there was controversy whether or not Thomas the Farmer would be able to own his farm under socialism. I understand that land would be communally owned under communism, but wasn't it the case that after the revolution in Russia -- especially during NEP and the war economy -- half the farms were still individually owned? Does anyone know if this is still the case in Cuba today?

Socialism is not the same as Communism and collectivization doesn't occur over time.

Cuba is a capitalist country.

In what reality are you living?

Correct. But the NEP was meant only as a means for Russia to hold out and wait for the revolution to spread to Germany and elsewhere. Not as a means to develop communism or even socialism. That being said, I don't see land being imediately reformed in a country like the USA after the revolution. Unless in the cases of speculators for building sites, but that's another matter. Thomas the farmer has nothing to worry and can just plough his land like he used to if he really wants to. Collectivisation is not really an issue in an industrialised country, it shouldn't be upheld as a dogma. As a matter of fact, in this day and age, I would think automating the agriculture in a country like the USA would be far more logical.
