this is really quite interesting. I'll be taking part in the protests in Glasgow since there are about 5 Starbucks within a square mile of the city center. It is clear that the no union or unionist elimination policies operated by the corporation result in an oppressed workforce and a weakening of the workers. I wonder how much of the falls in sales is down to boycotts and labour action......

I was talking about this over at my blog (http://joehillghost.wordpress.com/2008/07/01/our-friends-at-starbucks/) Basically Starbucks has driven out all the competitors it can with its "build to kill" strategy. So now we're seeing the inevitable closing of all the stores that aren't profitable.

It was inevitable that the Starbucks fad started to decline, and sales would therefore drop.

Starbucks greatly over-expanded to, as Joe Hill's Ghost stated, drive out all other competition.
