ok, i posted this in here because being a kind soul i decided that i wanted to make sure everyone saw this (even the cappies) so that they can also take advantage of this freeware program.

are you tired of waited for ages to load for a page to load up because it's filled with banner adverts and popups? well not for much longer,

http://www.adshield.org disables 99% of all pop-up adverts (which may contain JS virus) and allows you to add the ones that don't and other banner adverts to a block list preventing them from loading, it even allows you to add large, slow loading and irrelevant pictures to the block list,

Moskitto, how do you think this program compares to ZoneAlarm? Would I have to de-install ZoneAlarm to use AdShield?

Zonealarm does block a ton of ads...but if you visit a commercial site, ZA won't stop the ads originating from that site as long as you are there.

(You can use AdAware to get rid of any crap the commercial site plants on your computer while you're there after you have left.)

Cheers, Moskitto.

However, I seriously doubt I can do much to otherwise increase my Internet connection speed. You see, most people in Malaysia still access the 'Net through standard copper wire lines, because, despite the much-acclaimed virtues of a free market, stuff like broadband was only made commercially available in the second quarter of this year!

Yes, despite the fact that the international markets influence our own Information Technology industry, and the fact that Malaysia has the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), a vast, modern high-speed communications network area, despite the fact that our economy emphasizes so much on leading the drive for an IT-centric society, with e-identification cards that access anything from bank accounts to social security, despite the mobility of m-commerce and the user-friendliness of things like T3, the average citizen still uses bloody 56K modems or below to access the Internet, which is something I find disgusting.

Last year, a brand spanking new experimental fibre-optics network was laid down in Mont Kiara, an exclusively posh residential area just outside Kuala Lumpur, our capital city. You'd think that things like being able to surf for fifteen minutes straight without your connection buggering out on you is something you can take for granted in life, like 24-hour banking or gourmet coffee chains, but no, not even in a free market, buddy. Not even here.

Think about it:

Free market = DSL only commercially available in 2002 (exclusively from Telekom Malaysia only, our national telecommunications company).

That's fucking pathetic. So much for capitalism being the driving force behind today's innovations.

Moskitto - what a good find!

This is an awesome program, it does speed things up but it is the best design I have seen for blocking pop ups and banner ads with a lot of options. A lot of those other banner blockers want you to do a lot of steps to block something. This one just right click and select block.

It will work in conjuction with zone alarm.

This also works great if you just want to block certain images on web pages you go to all the time. Images are what slow down your web pages loading more than anything.
