This might seem dumb or simplistic so i apologise in advance but theirs no such thing as a dumb question or something..hopefully :blushing: anyway .

Recently the "maoist" rebels have called homosexuality a product of capitalism etc and it should be banned . But what makes these rebels socialist ? or even progressive ? . The BNP for example have poplulist economics that may even be called left wing but their racist so their fascist scum . But isn't that revelent to the nepalese rebels ?

Just in advance again I'm just wondering so maoists when your answering try not to kill me , but I'll understand anyway ....

Although I am not a Maoist I will try to answer. First of all it was (if even) some individuals who expressed this opinion. It was not derived from Maoist ideology and not even accepted by every Maoist in Nepal let alone the Maoists of other parts of the world. In backward countries mostly (but even in advanced capitalist countries) it is common for communists to have some backwards opinions on many questions especialy ethical ones. Even in advanced countries (for example Greece) the KKE (CP) has expressed the same opinion and said that homosexuals that "filth" the morality of the general public should be imprisoned . They even advocate a 5 year imprisonment penalty "just as in the USSR" as they say . So it is not a problem of Maoists , or Stalinists but it is a problem of individual so called communists and leftists who are very influenced by conservative norms in ethics such as those advocated by the Church. Even Marx in some letters to Engels could be called a homophobe . Marx wrote something in the context of this (I don't have the exact quote) " The members of the parliament are people with negro lovers " , and with that he wanted to depict the members of the parliament as corrupt etc. So it is not a question of a certain trend of Marxists it is a question of individuals influenced in questions of ethics and morality by the objective conditions of a certain region and the attidute towards the question of the general public. Don't forget that homophobia and sexism are a lot more widespread in backwards countries making local leftists succeptible to those trends.

But what makes these rebels socialist ? or even progressive ?

What makes these rebels socialist is that they want to nationalize the means of production . Of course due to their incorrenct theory of Stagism they think there should be a bourgeois revolution first before they do that. Of course that will never happen as exlained in Trotsky's permanent revolution . But that is another issue.

I hope that helped a bit.
