Comrade Flambeau ... some years ago I told a communist friend of mine as we were discussing socialism that Jesus can be rightly viewed as a revolutionary socialist ... even modern Che admirers envision him as Jesus with a machine gun.Jesus spoke out against the economic repression enacted by the Roman Empire as well as the repression imposed by the religious pretenders of that day. Then,as now,the poor was treated as outcasts and as nothing more than beasts of burden to be manipulated by the cunning and craftiness of those possessing the means of arbitration."Let him that hath two coats give to him that hath none",this and many other sentiments as expressed by this Jewish rabbi were and are the demands of socialism.Until this day all efforts towards establishing a socialist society has been hampered by the meglalomania of a select few men who used its basic tenets as a pretence to gain and maintain power ... let this hinderance go the way of the dinosaur in order that a new and better eco-system may emerge and thrive!Bob Dylan once sang that the union was a good idea until greed got in the way, likewise ... socialism is a good idea that has thus far been poorly executed. - Karo

In Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, Kurtz is almost portrayed as Jesus by the end of the novel. After Marlow's philosphies change, he is like the resurrected form of Christ. It is true that Conrad spent times in the Gulags under the Czarist regime as a youth for his parents Marxist sympathis, and was religous as well. Socialism embraces all religions, and that is probaly why there is so much Christian imagery and parallelism in Socialist writing and thought.
