Well, I suggest checking out threads in Learning, doing a search if you don't understand a term, and read especially the stickied threads in learning.

If after you have read the threads, then start a thread if you still don't understand stuff.

Brief overview though.

The "types" of leftist around here can be classified into a few small groups. These descriptions are not 100%, and I advice you to do a lot more reading.

"Marxists" are people who claim to use the methods of Karl Marx etc. to study history and thus predict what will happen next. They can be further classified into sub-groups, "crazy", "stupid", "annoying", and "too smart for their own good". I've heard tell of intelligent Marxists on the boards, but they are rare to find, and often don't go by the label. Some of the not so smart ones worship people called "Lenin", "Trotsky", "Mao" and "Stalin", claiming that they added lots of really cool stuff to Marxist theory. So far most of it has been bollocks when applied outside a very specific time and place.

"Anarchists" are again a quite diverse group. I won't go into the subgroupings here, because they aren't quite as interesting for the more general anthropologist. Anarchists want a society that is free, free from hierarchy, oppression and all that stuff. Considered utopian by many Marxists, mainly because said Marxists are ignorant. Some anarchists are utopian it is true, but then again, so are some Marxists. A number of anarchists accept large chunks of Marxian theory as well, but are smart enough not to accept the label. Anarchists tend to have more fun (various polls support this claim, as does anecdotal evidence).

There are also various other sorts around here, they are generally too diverse to talk about all of them though. Mostly you will only find one or two (maybe a couple more) of any one sort. Most of them are irrelevant.

I took it upon myself to point out the existence of the learning forum, and presented a satirical view point of some of the types of socialist available on the board.

It just so happens to appear that you fit the up tight type of "Marxist". Meh.
