View Full Version : What to say to people that have no idea what they are talking about

I have recently realized that the majority of the idiots that attempt to argue against communism with me have never read the manifesto, and have a very weak grasp on what communism actually is. The majority of these fools seem to think that there is only one communism (we all are Stalinists apparently). What is the most biting way to respond to these people? They are ordinarily brilliantly stupid. A person once responded to me telling them to "read the manifesto before pretending to know what they are talking about" with saying they don't need to read it, because they "know" communism doesn't work.
Once again, what I am asking for
What is the best response to these idiots, one that will either convince them to read the manifesto, or leave them feeling mentally frail?

I try not to get into an argument with them. specially if they are too working class people. the last thing you want to do is make them think you are arrogant and that "COMMUNISM IS THE ULTIMATE WAY!"

i always like to ask them why they think i like communism because from their point of view nobody could possibly like communism.
this usually gets 2 different responses
1) they say i am insane and their response ends the conversation as they obviously have their heads up their asses.
2) they say that they don't know and then i explain my view of communism and how it should function.
usually there is no point in going into details as that would not interest anyone unless they ask for a more thorough explanation just keep talking on how it would directly affect their life's for the better.
they might not ever talk about this again but they will remember it and that is all you can really ask for.
ohh those who think they know everything but at last they know nothing i cant stand them.ok you dont know,stop being an asshole and making stupid points!they should try to learn about that and then come with their conclusions.If you face such people,tell them to try learn more about what they criticize and when they do,ehey come back and say what they want!

@vitamin
pass them a book.especially when you are asked he he deserves what he is taking.Ask them if his boss deserves what he gets for doing nothing,say to them that not only if he works he wont loose anything,but he get exactly what he deserves and whats his needs and his family is.Now he isnt getting what he deserves,in communism etc he would,tell them this difference.

Good question Comrade.
Thing is - majority of people will probably tell you "ignore those idiots and move on". But what happens if you bump into such people more and more? Backing away is not a solution if we are determined to spread the socialist word.
I'll make some basic classification, solely on the basis of oratory expression - no politics involved.
Lower working class that is having a ruff time surviving the capitalistic oppression will more then likely be interested in an ideology that will make him/her more equal.
Although be aware: many workers with low level of education tend to fall prey to the organized capitalist propaganda. If an individual was never encouraged to use his own head (a climate that is becoming dominant in the US - for the obvious reasons) will be a hard one to "convert".
Some of these folks are far behind the "point of change", I suggest give up on these - they don't buy 1-on-1 conversations, but on the other hand are easily swept away by the power of masses (which is sorta good, sorta bad).
Of course, working class is a huge and broad term (research: Lumpenproletariat, proletariat, Petite bourgeoisie)
Then on the other hand you'll probably encounter people that have every need provided for - these have a natural reaction to reject any political/economical ideas that might jeopardize their current status.
Those folk see "nothing in it for them" and will not even pay attention to your socialist mumbo-jumbo.
But remember, socialism is not just politics and economy - its much greater then that. It's an idea - a humanistic approach to human race that seeks equality for all.
These virtues are indeed virtues, try talking about them to the people that "think" they already have everything they need.

A very patronising very of addressing the working class. So you're planning on having a proletarian communist revolution witout anyone knowing anything about the said ideology?
Try either of these approaches:
1. Patiently explain your positions. Or if that doesn't work;
2. Ignore them.
Would you mind explaining that a bit better? Anyway, my Dad is a self-employed graphic artist. But let's assume he works for a boss.
What i was saying(even if now it doesn't really goes because,as you say, he is self-employed)was that your parents think that in communism they would work,but they wont get paid.of course this is true they wont get any "money" because they just wont need them.When they work they will get what they need to live,nothing less nothing more.Now your dad may have a bad month at work,even if he does his job correct not many clients come to him and dont get a lot of money and he cant spent the proper money in food rental etc,things necessary for leaving,but in communism when he does his work he will always have what he needs.You see what i mean?In communism etc the worker will get what deserves,now he gets a lot less of what he deserves,so his boss can make profit.Of course this thing is about workers!Whe you are asked the question if your dad deserves what he is taking,answer whith a question if a worker who works day-night and getss a very little payment and he cant live whith so little money deserves it?Does he deserve of working so hard and not getting what he is offering?This is the point.
I know my english are not the best so i hope you understand competely what i said!;)

A good way to show one's ignorance is to use the Socratic Method.

I understand what you're saying but it would be hard to explain the worker exploitation scenario when she knows that in our family, this does not occur.
yeah i got this, thats why i told that in your case it doesnt really goes.I suggest you if you have a really close person to your family thats is a worker and he dont makes it with the money,and have problems living his family even if he works hard.Try that example if their is such a person close,so he might get problemed about what she is saying and try to know mre about communism etc.So you should have books near!;)

Well said.
Very true words. If those that speak out against you refuse to be reasoned with - ignore them. They are not worth the time and frustrations.

I'd love an example. Like, a really basic one that's totally adaptable, but witty nonetheless.
