Shame, fantastic comedian.
Up there with Bill Hicks in terms of anti-establishment comics.

Some kind of double standard, dont you think?"

George was the kind of guy who would not want us to be sad that he died...but I can't help it....reading and listening to his material cheers me up though.

My favorite comedian. I hope his humor continues to live on.

Definitely my favorite comedian as well. Near the end of his life, he talked more and more about the capitalist owners of this country, the control they exert, and the wage slavery we endure. He also had always warned about the dumbing down of the country, about war and so on.

He used his comedy as a vehicle for his social commentary, quite brilliantly obviously.

By the way, I clicked on that like Kronos posted and found this:

Youtube Lewis Black.

He has the cynical sense of humour that made Carlin so loveable.

Yes it is definitely a shame that he departed from us. :( That was one funny mother fucker, and he was as informative as he was comedic.

RIP

Carlin, Hicks, Lewis Black and really most 'political' comedians are rarely funny in my opinion, I never laughed at Carlin like I did Hedburg, or Dave Attell, Patrice Oneal or Louis CK, guys that were just, funny guys, not trying to change the world with comedy.

I partially agree, in his later years Carlin gave more social insight, however there were times that I was laughing my ass off at his rants. But he spoke 'da troof'. And he was an awesome entertainer and keeping the audience at the edge of their seats, nonetheless.

They re-broadcast the first Saturday Night Live last night. George Carlin was the host (the first host ever for the show.) It was pretty interesting. Carlin was "insightful" but didn't get many laughs--his even said once, "did I already tell these jokes to you?" He looked kind of high. He did some routines that went on to be world class favorites over time.

He made a joke that was funnier now then when the show was first broadcast in 1975: "do you ever watch old movies and wonder how many of the actors are dead?"

And ther was: George Carlin, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Bill Preston, Michael O'Donouhue, Andy Kaufmann, Jim Henson maybe more.

Anyway, interesting show.
