Question about law...

This has probably already been covered somewhere and I probably just missed it but, with Anarchism, how exactly would a form of law/punishment work?

I mean if I decide to just go ahead and rob random people, what would the penalty be for me? How would justice get worked out?

Again, sorry if this has already been laid out?

from my understanding, there would be rules based on the common consent of every individual: things like rape, murder, and the like would be punished severely, I assume. The people would arbitrate the laws themselves, and the state legal apparatus would be obselete. perhaps a vote on common rules and punishments. there would be a lot of direct democracy involved, and volunteers would make shure people respect the rights of others. It would be very different than top-down law, and would be pretty minimal.I could be wrong.
