Alright bugs the crap out of me. Apart from being the only person who shares ideas of Marxism, Anarchism, Communism, etc at my school...I get blundered with the dumbest rhetoric from my classmates. I was recently arguing with this girl over the fact that she thought it was absolutely impossible to change the world. She thought it couldn't be done. Any thoughts?

Incidentally, remind this girl that if she were right, we'd all still be living in caves.

I can just imagine someone saying this in, say, the Seventheenth century: "I can't see King Charles ever being removed -- you can't change the world, Oliver..."

What did she mean you can't change the world?

Does she think the current status of the world is the net result? That the entire accumulation of existence built up to this moment, and we cannot alter the present or future?
If so, I'd take a piss on the ground. There wasn't pee there before; therefore there was a change in the world.

Or did she mean that she was taking a philosophical stance of determinism, hard determinism, incompatibilism, the certainty proposition, or something similar?

If she thinks that the world doesn't change because she doesn't believe in free will, she is mistaken; it simply means that there is no free will to change the world as you want to (unless you are supposed to.) The world still changes, it's just that nobody can control how it changes.

And if she doesn't believe in free will, then just smack her in the face. Then blame in on your lack of free will (you were going to do it; it was inevitable.)
