I have read some of the threads about environmental problems like global warming, polution etc.
Most seem to agree that the problems cant be solved without getting rid of capitalism which i agree with.
But my question is: What changes should we push towards under socialism to fix the current environmental problems?

Well, as I've been led to understand (please tell me if I am wrong), Denmark has already put a time-line on phasing out petrol-powered cars in favour of ethanol and hybrid autos.
The biggies are legislature that cuts back on industrial and commercial waste and inefficiency. It is cheaper to use inefficient and dirty fuels, but in the interest of the planet, I see it as an investment.
When those smoke stacks stop spewing forth, legislation to cut back on personal wastes and inefficiency (such as car taxes, petrol and diesel engines phased out in favour of ethanol and bio-diesel, etc.)
On a personal level, you can walk and use public transit, and try to buy products without unneeded packaging.
Just the same old crap we've heard for a while now; once special interests (commercial and industrial) are out of the way, I expect to see steady progress.

More efficiency, go nuclear.

Massive public transportation that works very efficiently and on enviormentally-friendly fuels. That would stop people from owning cars and it would be less veichles on the road.
Solar pannels for the homes so there won't be an electricity company making profites from our electric needs.
And all homes will be straw bale

That depends where you are.
If there is a viable option for solar or wind power, those are more efficient (less transport of materials; wastes.)
However, yes, for most of the globe nuclear is the best option.

More efficiency, go nuclear.
Nuclear power is not renevable though when it runs our should we then be completely dependant on solar and wind power e.t.c.?

I am rather sure that is not the case. I have not been able to find any sources about that and i have never heard of it. The problem is that in Denmark cars are expensive, and hybrid cars are generally so expensive that most people can not afford to buy them.

i get the feeling that many "hard core leftist" don't seem to give two shits about the environment. I have made that my main issue, like three of my last 5 threads consist of environmental issues. Every seems to be against "saving the earth" or am i just reading things wrong?

Our leaders need to step up to the plate and take action instead of just talking.

The main problem of capitalism here is that it externalizes the costs of environmental destruction. You produce something that's cheaper but has more pollutants and there's no consequence. Under a socialist system, production takes environmental destruction into account so that things are produced in the most sustainable way.

Global warming...some say it is a huge problem and some say it is not. Who do you believe and what proof is there that it is a problem?:blushing:
