I've been getting back into some of the ole american street punk recently, so what are your favourite bands from this particular genre?
Mine are A Global Threat, (old) Casualties and (old) unseen. Before the latter two pretty much sold out on their punk credientials/change of style.

The only Casualties album I like is the one they recorded in Spanish, En La Linea Del Frente. I didn't even know they 'sold out on their punk credentials' and how that happened as I never really took much interest in them. The album I mean is fairly recent, very aggressive (a quality enhanced by the harsher Spanish pronounciation), and hugely enjoyable.

Generally speaking, I feel that American hardcore punk was better when it was fresh and sounded American rather than British: I like a lot of the early 80s LA hardcore bands such as Adolescents, Fear, Black Flag, Agent Orange, TSOL, and not to forget the mighty GERMS.

hmmm... havn't really been into street punk in awhile, like a global threat and the unseen, but i decided that i fucking hate the casualties. mostly a bunch of inarticulate idiots. have one song that actively attacks anarcho punk,

Politicians everywhere
Coming over to the shows
You can see them at the shows
Preaching crap like they know it all

Politicians....[x3]
No More Politicians

Politicians on the streets
Won't leave me alone, won't let me be
They always try to bring me down
'cause I'm punk in the Underground

Fucking preaching to you and me
With your preach of anarchy
You were the first to say punk is dead
but it's alive and doing well....Go

Politicians....[x3]
No More Politicians

Politicians go away
Don't need your kind, don't need it here
You used to wear the business suit
Now you're wearing combat boots
Politicians Everywhere
Stupid long and dready hair
You can see them during the shows
Preaching lies, I know you all

Politicians....[x3]
No More Politicians....AARGH

 What a lyric!

Like, who's coming to their shows? Bush and Obama?

Politicians on the streets
Won't leave me alone, won't let me be

Life's tough when you're a member of Casualties.

'cause I'm punk in the Underground

Where's that?

Stupid long and dready hair

I agree with this one. Sorry - just my personal taste.

A typical 'punk's not dead'/oi type lyric. These guys seem to inhabit some strange cotton wool world where politics don't exist unless brought in by evil 'politicians'.

Musically, their En La Linea Del Frente album is great, though.

they were considerated nazis in europe back in the days.

They had a song called 'Fascist Attitudes' on their first album, and they were best pals with Bad Brains when the latter lived in NYC. Nazis? Hardly. But just like the Bad Brains, they too were very homophobic and their singer was infamous for beating up gay people on the Lower West Side. I think they've changed a lot in this respect, though.

I didn't say they were nazis I said they were considerated nazis. Same goes for NYHC bands like Warzone and Cro-Mags.

Yeah, I gathered that :) You sounded unsure about them, though, so I thought I'd provide whatever little info I had on AF.

I don't really like the NYxHC bands much... it's too much of a macho jock thing to my taste.

Actually, I've just found this lyric by Agnostic Front:

PUBLIC ASSISTANCE

You spend your life on welfare lines
Or looking for handouts
Why don't you go find a job
You birth more kids to up your checks
So you can buy more drugs
Cash in food stamps and get drunk

[Chorus:]
Uncle Sam takes half my pay
So you can live for free
I got a family and bills to pay
No one hands money to me
You can go to school for nothing
Got that government grant
Get money in advance
When you're sick from shooting up
Medicaid pays full portion
When little Maria gets knocked up
She gets a free abortion

[Chorus]

How come it's minorities who cry
Things are too tough
On TV with their gold chains
Claim they don't have enough
I say make them clean the sewers
Don't take no resistance
If they don't like it go to hell
And cut their public assistance

Agnostic Front weren't Nazis, they were just very right-wing/conservative. A number of the NYHC bands of the 80's were- the Dead Kennedys song "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" is basically about them. Of course, you had bands like Reagan Youth coming out of NY as well.

Other then the Ramones, I'm only really familiar with U.K. punk. . .

I got a buddy who was in an American punk band, though. I can't remember their name, but their hit song was "Your Sister Raped Chewbaaca".

Yeah, that makes sense. A friend says that whenever Agnostic Front play in Sofia, they've got busloads of nazi skins coming in from all over Bulgaria to see them. As a result, these people constitute Agnostic Front's sole audience in BG because no one else dares going. I wonder if AF are aware of that?

I read an interview with them in which they appear non-racist yet right-wing and "patriotic", pretty much like what you said. Still, that verse I put in bold is a bit, um, insensitive.

Sorry to sound dismissive but skinheads, the majority I've come across, just dumb themselves down to appear more macho. Also they're just general chauvnistic jerks.
