Walter, Hunter and some Australian guy (http://www.abc.net.au/rn/talks/8.30/mediarpt/stories/s659555.htm) on the media after the 11th of September 2001.
This is an interesting article containing transcripts from interviews Mick O'Regan, the presenter of ABC Radio's "The Media Report", had with Walter Cronkite, Hunter S. Thompson and Peter Carey, an Australian writer who lives around the corner from where the world trade centres were.

Well, I found this interesting.

I'm glad you bumped it. I didn't see it the first time around.
From Thompson, speaking about Bush:
"We have to beat this bastard one way or another. And the American government is the greatest enemy of freedom around the world that I can think of. And we keep waving that flag, freedom, yes, these people are flag-suckers."
Yep, that about sums it up for me.

i would like to know what you define freedom as.

Oh, you know. Freedom to elect your own government without the US backing a coup. Little things like that.

Yeah, I'm going to read it again.
What I found particularily interesting was Walter Kronkite's criticism of the freedom the press was allowed in covering the Afghani war and what not. I don't know much about Kronkite, but I think he is quite respected in the US?
It is telling for me that if a man like him is criticising, something must be up.

Predictable leftist garbage. Would I have expected more from those sources? Nope. What would make anyone think I would care to hear their political commentary?

you're a cappie, and you're in a socialist messageboard. What did you expect? that we would ignore the suffering capitalism and ignorance causes?

Let me rephrase that. Why would anyone want to hear their political commentary?
Goldfinger

that's the problem: few people do. It's sad, because ignorance is bliss. so if no people know about it, no-one fears oppression, because they don't know it exists

I am hardly ignorant, AN. I just don't place much credibility on those views. Getting tired of hearing bullshit and not knowing about the bullshit are two very different things. Walter did make a good point when he questioned limiting the role of the media. We can not compromise national security, but documentation is a must.

Any more questions you want to answer for yourself?
I would want to read Thompson's views because he's been around for a long time. He covered Vietnam and a lot of stuff in South America. He's one of my favorite writers and he says what he thinks and feels.
The other guy lives around the corner from the site of the World Trade Centres, and I don't think he had a "typical leftist view" at all. I think he had a New Yorker's view.

Ah, but that is a point I have heard many people make that were not considered to be 'mad dog' liberals.

Fair enough, I hadn't.
I wasn't aware that Cronkite was a " 'mad dog' liberal". I had the impression he was quite respected by Joe Q. Idiot. I don't know much about him except he presented the evening news for many years on one of the more popular stations, correct?
Seeing as he presented that, I would have imagined he was quite conservative. Please inform me further.
