I got this link from an OIer of impeccable discernment (a real OIer--not one of those 97/100% pure Commies sentenced to toil in Purgatory till they become acceptable to Commie Club Panthion.) Anyway, it describes the life of Communist students at a major American University. The OIer in question PMed me with this--I'm not sure if he wanted me to post it, so I won't give his name (he can volenteer if that is his wish.) I am probably the only OIer that can still start a thread--no doubt only through the power of prayer.

Back to the Commies this thread is about: through adversity they still persue the stars. Good for them.

You didn't have to spoil it on the first post. :( But there is a lot of truth in satire, isn't there?

You a Catholic? So am I. I see a general "socialist" connection in Catholicism--but I fail to see any real connection with Communism per se. I'd be interested in your insights ont he subject.

The Onion isn't satire, it's just stupid and not funny. An article I recently saw about "Barbara Bush Tells All Africans they have AIDS" was not funny, or satirical.

It's satire. This article is. The article really drives home a point about about why you Communists--who have a really interesting economic philosophy are such a fringe of the fringe of anyone's political or social or economic consciousness.

The point of the article--is that Marxism isn't saleable in the marketplace of ideas and that the "practitioners" of Marxism are most of the problem.

Do you have an argement with that? I don't.

The satire is dead on.

If you are talking CNN, than you'd be watching what my friends call, the Communist News Network.

And that's an interesting point--at least in the USA, Liberals that are a bit more liberal than most are called: "Communists."

It has NOTHING to do with what you call "Communist" around here. Maybe here in Europe "Communist" means something, but in America it's just a "word." Mostly pejorative, but nothing to do with ANYTHING ever discussed on RevLeft.

I'm shocked and disappointed by this. I think you people have something of real value to add to the American discussion--and I certainly don't agree with most of it--but it's of value and it's being missed. And I think that this article points to a reason why.

You know what? I wasn hanging around with a bunch of friends over a neighbor's house and it was Sunday and we were drinking like fishes and I usually dring beer or wine and I was drinking Scotches and the did this thread.

I pretty much come accross like an ass. If someone wants to delet it--please do, or you can leave it up as a warning to all the good people around here that drinking and posting don't mix. :(

I enjoyed the article, the Onion always brings a smile to my face (almost).

Don't really see this as criticism, mostly because the general western public media doesn't even talk about marxism any more even though marxist thought is more applicable than ever.
