Is this for real or a joke? Across Europe a lot of the far-Right have been gravitating towards support for Israel - the BNP being described as the "most Zionist" political party by the British Board of Jews for example - but in a German context this is very surprising.

While theres much more of a vote for demonising Muslims than raising crackpot theories about Jews and banking etc for the far-right today, I wouldn't have expected any on the German far-Right to back Israel given obvious Nazi history.

I expect these are fringe nutcases of other fringe nutcases though.

I'd be interested to hear Malte's view on these folk?

The BNP are now focusing their hate propaganda on Muslims. They appear to have left antisemitism behind because they aim for the Jewish vote. They've even got one or two Jewish councillors. To me, this just shows how arbitrarily fascists target minorities to build a nationalist consensus. Antisemitism, racism and xenophobia have always just been tools for the BNP. The BNP are no idealists, not even racist idealists. They are just scumbags trying to bring out people's lowest instincts for the sake of gaining political power. They will love Jews today and hate them tomorrow.

The Sweden Democrats in Sweden have been trying to poise as zionists for a long time, which is quite smart. More Swedes are afraid of Islam today than of Jews.

This isn't recent news. Muslims are now a much bigger target than the Jews for many of the more main-stream far-right groups who want to look more respectable. Railing against the Jews is out of style I guess, now It's much more politically acceptable to demonize Muslims. The more orthodox and extreme nazi groups will of course always hate the jews, but like caligula Z said, there are also many opportunists in the far right, just like there are in the left.

Also, even the "in between" far-right support these days boils down to a strong desire for the Jewish community to merely leave for Israel. They hate Muslims more, so having the Jews leave for Israel means a stronger Jewish presence there in the Middle East.

Also, while the BNP and the Sweden Democrats once were nazi parties, they are now just reactionary right-wing populist bourgeoisie parties, who lack the inner characteristics of fascism.

Heck, Alleanza Nazionale in Italia are almost an ordinary liberal-conservative party today...

Could you fix the link in the original post?

And yes, it is rare in a German context I think. Most of the prominent sections of the German far-right, particularly the Autonomous Nationalists, are pro-Palestine and often have anti-Israel banners at their demos (while some sections of the Left become pro-Israel... what a mess it is here).
