View Full Version : Thrilled to have finally made it!

Greetings all!

My better half told me about this site a couple months ago, but I haven't gotten around to registering until now. Well, I am very glad that I've finally done so! I've wanted to connect with other leftists for a long time now, and it appears that I've come to the right place.

About me...well, I am a registered member of the Socialist Party USA. I am a muckraker on a local level (for now), whilst studying journalism at the local public college. I'm a member of the working class - and a proud one, at that. I work in the midst of a bourgeois hellhole, and I know that people look down on me for my socio-economic status...and to be honest, I don't mind one bit. Turning into someone like that is my worst nightmare.

I don't really know too many leftists where I am. I get invited to events by the local Democrats a lot, but I'm not interested. I feel as though the party has screwed the most vulnerable citizens of my country over almost as badly as the Republicans have. I have met a lot of people who claim to be "liberal" but are really libertarian. I know tons of people who call themselves "open-minded" but are unwilling to listen to opposing opinions. I know people who drive hummers but claim to be "going green." I have been chastized for not buying clothing from places like the sweatshop-free American Apparel, but it isn't like poor people can afford spend that kind of money.

I'm here primarily for learning and outreach. I don't like confrontation and will probably stay out of heated debates. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone here. Thanks for listening!

Hallie

Hello comrade. Nice to see more socialists here.

I don't know many lefists in Warwick either. Most people in Warwick are just stupid National Party supporters. There are some Australian Labour Party memebrs but they are just typical anti communist pro capitalist trade unionists from the Australian Services Union (ASU) and from the Australian Workers' Union (AWU). The ALP has totally betrayed the working class only many issues like industrial relations, health, education, military, war, economy, position on socialism and position on capitalism. I can't believe the ALP is no longer social democratic. The ALP is now a declared capitalist pro bourgeoisie political party.

Hello and welcome to the site.

Sorry, but I didn't catch who your "better half" was (probably because you didn't throw it).

Thank you all for your welcomes! I'm mostly browsing right now but am thinking of starting a few how-to threads in the DIY section. It's really nice to be here!

Oh, that's fantastic. The presidential candidate for SPUSA called me up one day to ask me to help set up at an event, but I didn't get his message until after the fact. :( However, the fact that he called at all is probably the coolest thing that's happened in my life in...well, a long time.

Incidentally, I do design/decorate a lot of clothing. I love painting onto jeans and shirts, and have several home-made t-shirts with political slogans. However, I don't think I'd wear a shirt about executioners on a day-to-day basis...maybe if I got really angry though...

Ah, he hasn't registered here, but he lurks quite often. He's an anarcho-syndicalist and the most intellectually brilliant person I've ever met, so maybe someday I can convince him to register and account.

Cheers!
