Sex on Ecuador's Political Agenda. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7382010.stm)
What are people's general thoughts on sexual liberation?
Is it something that has had considerable success in the past twenty odd years or so?
Or is it still largely accepted that, in sex, the role of a woman is to please a man - in spite of the woman's sexual desires?
Thoughts?

Sexual liberation is of course a progressive thing. Sexual liberation for women is also a positive thing for men as it's way more fun having sex with a lively woman who genuinly enjoys sex instead of a woman who just has sex for the pleasure of the man. One of the big strawmans that has to be dismantled is that women don't enjoy sex. Most just don't enjoy lousy sex as much.
As for the progress the last twenty years i can't say asmuch since I wasn't adult twenty years ago. But it seems to me like the younger generation is much more open to the thought that women should have sex just for the enjoyment of it than the older generation. Not that it is looked down on so much in the older generation either. 40ish upper class women have on a few occations offered me financial benefits in trade for company.
Sexual liberation is a good thing on for both men and women as it makes sex better for both parts. And it liberates women in such a way that they realize that the world should be there for their enjoyment too.

As part of the younger generation, I find it rather difficult to contemplate exactly what other reason a woman would have sex for ^^ (although I do of course, academically, know them)
Sexual liberation is one of the fronts that considerable progress has been made on; now we just need to make sure it stays that way (for example, fighting that ludicrous law on "extreme" pornography)

Sexual liberation is a great thing. It's a myth of the religious oppressors that sex beyond procreation or "fornication" is morally wrong. Is it wrong to seek pleasure and to please your partner or another human being physically? As long as it's consensual sex between mature (although sexual maturity is a very grey area) adults, my answer is no.
In more technologically advanced nations it seems to have made great progression; although from what I can tell in less developed areas it tends to still be very primitive, strictly for procreation or the enjoyment of the male, but in accordance with that article that may be changing.
Sexual inequality is a pretty great white whale in many religious regions. This needs to change.

I almost agree completely except for the last line down there. I'm only 14 so i have never experienced sex before ( and find myself at the thought that you bastards are lucky ) but sex should obviously be for the enjoyment of all involved and if one isn't pleased then he or she should seek to fulfill this need elsewhere or deal with it.
A lot of people here like pornography and while I think yes it's an okay thing in itself I believe it is kind of unfair for those involved, and by that I mean it's unfair to everyone else that someone in the pornography could be paid as much as a normal person makes in a year. I also think it's wrong because sex is not meant to be work ( or so I think ) and it's meant to pleasure not to be a "job".

I was a little wary about adding that on; we've already got a fairly long thread about it. I don't want to clutter up this one, so I'll just point you over here (http://www.revleft.com/vb/should-violent-pornography-t74734/index.html).

We've made a lot of progress, but I think the sexual revolution (in the U.S. at least) is still recovering a bit from the backlash caused by Reagan and friends exploiting the discovery of AIDS against woman and gays.
I'd also like to add that the view I've encountered from most men my age is all about how many woman they can please, but they present it in such a chauvinistic way that I suppose it could hardly be considered progress. More like progress made on a car with square wheels.

Take a look at the amazing sexist "lads mags".
Everyone of them has sections on how to please a woman better.
Progress has been made, its still a long way to go but it has been made.
